The current voice for the ships is pretty dull
"Frame shift drive charging... Ready to engage... 4, 3, 2, 1, engage... Warning; under attack... Ship destroyed"
The same drone is getting a little repetitive. I'm suggesting a customizeable AI voice (from presets) that you can change to spice up your atmosphere.
Also, if you could hire enough voice actors, being able to change the accent would be cool, as well as the gender. And we need not only that, but different ways of saying actions.
Now: Frame shift drive charging
My idea:
Frame shift drive charging
Shunting power to hyperdrive
Beginning jump sequence
Basically different versions of the same command. Surprisingly, this may reduce boredom because the voice will be new and players will want to experiment more with the ship.
This also gives players a chance to give their ship a personality. The current AI is too stern for my liking. Players might get attached to their ships, caring for them more. Yes, I did say caring. Oh no elite dangerous is turning into moshi monsters... Only joking.
Optional customisations: Personality
Of course, getting voice actors to personalise sayings would be immensely difficult, it would have to be a DLC.
Personalities:
Standard (what we have now)
Annoyed
Funny
Arrogant
Formal
Supportive
Imagine a voice in your ear saying "Target destroyed, let's cash in the check." Or "Temperature critical, it's getting hot in here - must be me!"
As well as this, you could allow players to add their own voices under a folder tree Steamapps, Common, Elite Dangerous, ShipAI, Voices, CUSTOM (here you can add folders which you can select in game to use the voices from), (file name)
Examples of file names:
Use .ogg for sound files.
FSD_charging.ogg
Ship_destroyed.ogg
Temperature_critical.ogg
Also, you can add (variant) onto the end of the file name to add a variant speech. Say you want the AI to say "Ship destroyed" OR "Enemy ship eliminated" you can have the files:
Ship_destroyed - contains the audio for Ship Destroyed
Ship_destroyed(variant) - contains the audio for Enemy ship eliminated
Then, the number 1 decided by the variants and converted into a percentage (of 1). There is now a 50% chance for either of the two files to be selected the next time you destroy a ship. If there's 10 variants, there will be a 10% chance for each sound file variant to play.
Feedback would greatly be appreciated. Also, voice attack doesn't cut it for me. I'd like to see full game integration of voices into the game (this is the ship voices, not voice commands.)
