Cutter is the best all-purpose ship.

I got my cutter prior to 1.6/2.1. Apart from hauling, it was pretty useless. A few weeks ago, I dug it out and started using it again. I managed to get the Engineers to upgrade the speed to 420 and the jump range to over 25LY. I also managed to get level 5 shields. Now it's a beast. All the weapons are turretted apart from the 3c beam laser on the huge point.

I can carry 500T of cargo doing the very lucrative long-range hauling missions, and when I get interdicted by those pesky Elite FDLs, I just reverse and keep pointing at it while the turrets do their work. I barely lose one ring of my shields.

It can also handle just about every type of mission with ease, plus, it can carry 2 SRVs for dangerous base missions and prolonged prospecting. Mining is a breeze with all the prospector and collector limpets you want.

I even managed to spend a few hours in a RES and Nav beacon with cargo in my hold.

To summarise, I now feel like I did pre 1.6/2.1, where I feel more in control of the game. Nothing worries me anymore, and I can pick and choose which activities I want to do. I guess a similarly upgraded Anaconda would also be similar, but with less speed and more jump range. I'm really glad that I did all the Empire rank grinding when it was easy.

if you say so dude , btw whats up with all this (the best ship posts latley )?
in my opinion no1 can tell you which of the 3 are the best.
it all depends of what you want to do

The Cutter is a great ship. No doubt about that.
The only thing I regret is not being able to dock at outposts.
When I do ranking, or engage in engineers stuff I always switch to my Python, because it makes my life so much easier.

FD said they want to eventually add ship based shuttles to the game.
When that happens the Cutter will have a lot more options, provided we can use the shuttle to ferry cargo.

The Cutter is a good multipurpose ship, but it is not the best. It is the tankiest, but it lacks in jump range and turn rate. Also, it has less slots than the Anaconda while having larger slots. Hardpoints are better though in my opinion.

The OP has a jump range of 25LY. Thats grand for a multipurpose ship. You could have a higher number, but it would rarely influence the actual performance at all.

Just my 2 cents, but I think the Cutter has eclipsed the Conda in multi-purpose. With Engineers, the FSD is tolerable. The Conda is still an amazing ship but with the changes of AI and Engineers, it performs best when specialized and kinda falls flat as multi-purpose now. Like I said, just my take and I have many hours in both.

I consider multi-purpose to be a "can has cargo, but pls die pirate scum" ship. Granted, my Conda has all of five hardpoints filled (and I'll be removing the medium mine launchers shortly, as the mines tend to smack you in the face), but I suppose the Cutter would be better for short-range, high-tonnage missions given its larger FSD and amazing cargo capacity.

Am really starting to enjoy flying this ship, almost 700 tonnes of cargo whilst heavily shielded, LVL-5 FSD upgrade gives it an amazing fully laden jump range, very smooth to fly once you get to grips with it. It has now become my main long range hauler, I can drop into combat zones whilst fully laden and not break a sweat. The Python is still my favorite for general work inside populated space, the Cutter would be the better choice but I enjoy the Python way too much to stop using it.

Agreed. The Cutter, Conda and Python are all great ships but you can't beat being able to land on outposts. I hope we get many more ships in the Python range in the near future.

I don't need an all purpose ship.

I have a Fed Corvette for heavy combat
the cutter for trading
the anaconda for mining

Why be average at everything when you can excel at everything through multiple ships?

My Corvette can go mining, too. I just ram asteroids into dust.

So that you can cruise around in a ship that does everything well, I have dedicated T9 miners, Anaconda explorers, Cutter for CG work, smuggling Python. I still have other variants of those ships in a multi purpose role. Let's not forget we didn't start out with cash to buy multiple ships, I spent a good six months with a multipurpose Anaconda & Python.

Yes, I love flying her too. She is big, she feels big, but you can put her down so smooth as if you're landing on a cloud.
I think I only scraped the sides of the station entrance twice of all the many times I docked.
The cutter is great ship.

I think FD is doing a great job with the different flight models of the ships.

She still doesn't feel like a warship though! :D

Everything is better with upgrades... :)

Very, very true. I love how much fun I have flying with even a few upgrades. Every ship I own got better with engineers.

OT: I like the Cutter but my twin, huge, overcharged, incendiary multicannons on my Corvette cannot easily be put aside. It can't jump 25 Ly but it can do 17 A-rated with a couple hundred tons of cargo, SRV, collector limpets and some scanners...I just love the corvette so much more now, which I didn't think would be possible. I only need paintjobs for it, then it will be perfect.

Actually, having only recently bought an Anaconda, is it normally jet-black with slightly luminescent green decals? It looks cool, and isn't listed as a paintjob, so I'm just wondering.

Nothing beats my shieldless, full armor, seeker missiles sidewinder [cool]

Ok, maybe is not that good, but man, i have a lots of fun in it.
