CV1 Image Quality - Workarounds?

Hi all, I just got my CV1 yesterday and I tried Elite last night. Wow. When I left the hanger for the first time inside a space station...

The game is amazing in VR, and it messes with my mind when I'm doing rolls in space.

I do however have an issue with my left eye's panel, which is worst when I'm in open space or in shadowed asteroid fields. The left panel looks almost like it's not displaying the right amount of colours, and its a pixelated red/grey-blue mess. Especially apparent when looking a the milky way in the background.

I'm convinced its not a hardware issue but software, and maybe I've set things up incorrectly?

Is anyone else having a similar issue and have you found a workaround/fix?

Thank you all.

I know some people are getting red tint, this is not what I get in fact I dont get that at all. I tried taking some pictures but failed, although found this on the net which highlghts what I see, although so much worse in ED.

Its very similar to what might happen to an image if I canged its colour space/depth to diferent one...

Im out now but I'm thinking if it may be an option in nvidia drivers thats causing it.. But then again why is it not happening on the other screen too.

Is this just in ED or all apps? If it's all apps then I'd get on to Oculus support pronto. If you look through previous threads I remember a guy a couple of weeks ago saying that the two sides were not matching.

I think all you can do from your side is re-run the setup (to re-calibrate the sensor etc.) and try moving the sensor around in case it's a tracking issue, but whenever I start to lose tracking the effect is the same across both eyes.

Ok I've done a bit of trouble shooting and for a second I thought I fixed it! I've half fixed it, I didn't realise there were 2 issues....

Ok so the issue exists in the VR main menu, In some of the corners of the hanger, some of the wall textures on the left and in the shadows it displays funky in the left screen. When I bumped the Gamma up they started to look better... So I bumped it up all the way and the left eye's screen started displaying as the right eye's screen! Brilliant.

I then went into the game and it was all bad still, so there are 2 issues here. For example the backdrop of space and the scratches on my windshield were rendering so bad as above, now the scratches on my windscreen are perfect and rendering as the right eye but space is still messed up in left screen, but what I realised is it's not space thats messed up it the gaseous environmental backdrop thats rendering with this low dynamic range/colour depth/space issue.

Any thoughts?

This sounds like a bad calibration of the left panel. I would contact Oculus for replacement.

I have the spudToggle tool from the Oculus and when I disable the spud (default for all is enabled), the space in Elite gets messed up, like heavy banding in deep blacks (like some of the areas are too black).
I think this is because FD has optimized the blacks for the default gamma curve and disabling the spud will cause it to go "too black" or something like that.

I have tested the spudToggle with many games and demos and Elite is the only one where I can see the blacks are rendered wrong when I disable the spud. Thats odd.

Actually someone gave me the registry keys that the spud tool adds and when I turned spud off all my issues went away.

I presently own the DK2 but had a CV1 loaned to me for a couple of days and I could definitely say I had the same issue on my left eye as the op. Only noticed the issue in ELite but then again the other games I tried like warthunder are brighter games. Needless to say I decided I am sticking to my DK2 until next gen hmd....or at least I get hard proof that CV1/Vive does not normally have this issue.

I don't have the issue with the screen mis-match, but I do get the banding from the gas clouds in space. I thought it was just something I had to live with. Don't notice it mostly, but it looks like I should do a bit more gfx tweaking.

Question: What is the spud tool?:S

Got my CV1 yesterday - I dont have this issue - I would definitely contact Oculus support if I were in your shoes OP.

New (1 week) CV1 owner here and i have the mismatch in darker scenes. It kinda make me feel boss-eyed and it's quite annoying... in touch with Oculus support at the moment, but i'm thinking it may have to go back. There are quite a few reporting similar issues in the Oculus support forums and on Reddit.
