Game Discussions Cyberpunk 2077 - official gameplay

SP should never need a server connection, but I'm a dinosaur.

It won't, if you download the offline installer and don't use GOG Galaxy...but as the preload was only available through GOG Galaxy, everyone who needs to play their single player game a few hours earlier is using GOG Galaxy.

Agreed.

From the brief glimpses I get from GOG Galaxy, there's apparently an update that has to download in order for the game to go live.

You'd think by now game companies would know to have additional server capacity up and running when a game goes live, or on a major patch day...

There's a 241MB download that needs to happen on GOG before the game will activate.

I left it running for about 20 minutes, where it continually failed, but then it suddenly worked and I'm in now. 🤷‍♀️

Looking good so far... created a Streetrat character that looks vaguely "Juniper-ish", fiddled with the settings, got a (hopefully) playable framerate at 4K. Also played first level of the combat tutorial.

Calling it a night though.

First impressions:

1) Game crashed after finishing character creation, had to redo it.
2) Audio quality is abysmal on my USB headphone, never had that before. Sounds like a buffer thats too small. Works on my primary audio device though.
3) Cant remember the last game I saw an NPC T-posing within minutes of playing. :p
4) Performance is better than expected, but oddly inconsistent with weird results from different settings. 45-60 FPS @ 4k/high without RT is fine with me.
5) Started as a corpo, game is mostly a mix of Watch Dogs and Deus Ex. With some UI changes this would have fooled me as a DLC for either.

And if it wasn't there would be shrieking about how they failed to re-invent the wheel with weird changes to formulas mainstream audiences find pleasing.

Only played about 10-15mins after character creation but from what I saw it looks nice. I noticed 55-60fps range in the short time I played. That's max settings at 1440p. I've seen lots of bug talk so we'll see how it goes. I loaded it up late evening here so missed the server rush.

Once I was able to start the game, everything went smoothly, and looked good at high settings... which was surprising, given I've got a 980 (non-TI) in my computer. Although I'm devastated (not really) that I there weren't any elf ear 🧝‍♀️ options. What kind of futuristic corporate dystopia doesn't allow you to mod your ears? I wanna try to recreate my Shadowrun character!!! :D

I decided to start a Corporate flunky. Probably spent an hour just poking my nose into things at corporate HQ before I moved on with the story. Did you know they've got hyperlinks on the computers in-game? (y)

Finished with the combat tutorial... though I'm planning on playing more of a hacker/stealth type.

Does anyone already know how the game plays on a gtx 1080 7700k pc vs a ps5? Reason I ask is if I buy it on the pc, I can play when the misses watches tv and play it on tv with the shield when she’s not on it, but I have a ps5 coming in soon but that limits the playtime a bit. Which one gives the best experience?
First world problems 😁

Besides the odd graphic glitch here and there...none of which were that distracting...I haven't found any show stopping bugs in 5 hours of play. Default settings for my PC came up as all ultra with full monty RTX and DSS. I turned off chromatic abberation and film grain since I've never been a fan of them...besides that, haven't changed anything except turn subtitles off and removed the target health bars, hit markers etc...never did get to like them either :)

It was so irritating watching him play I had to turn it off...several octaves more frustrating than watching my wife play Skyrim, or even worse than that, watching her shopping and looking at every label on every packet or tin in the shop...and why I rarely watch streamers at all :cautious:
lol, yes it is true he takes his time and seems to be a bit of loot maniac.

Same, I played about 2 hours. Only bug that was big enough to make me laugh was when Jackie walked through a door before it opened :D

Mine defaulted to medium settings, but my computer is 6 years old so no surprised there. runs fine.

It really runs fine? I've held off getting this yet. Whilst hyped, I'm also tempered in my games buying (I have so many...) so I'm hesitatant to jump on the bandwagon until we truely see how well it runs from all of the early adopters.

Yeah it runs fine for me. I left it on the medium settings it defaulted to, might try upping some of them tonight. It looks good enough for me though. My PC is 6 years old, but was pretty good at the time. I have a i7 processor and 980 graphics card. Pretty much everything still runs OK on it. I just can't max settings on everything any more.

So far it's less buggy than I was expecting after the reviews over the last couple of days.

Just starting the download, so it'll be a while until I give it a spin. Plus it's only next week that I'm getting my new parts which include a Ryzen 9 3900X to replace the i5-2500K which has been an absolute rock all these years and well deserves its retirement. Hopefully that all runs decently enough that I can enjoy it already before the upgrade. I only do 1080p so it's not like I should need massive specs.

Technical issues are to be expected. However, trying to sort out the real technical issues from the trollthreads on the steam forums is a different skill entirely. With a game this hyped, truth and lies trolling half truths are hard to separate. Also, steam currently has a lot of early (useless) reviews and a strange overall rating (currently 71% positive). I guess this is down to all the technical issues with deployment of a game of this magnitude.
