CZ-how to choose sides? Not a menu question

I know the menu mechanics, this q relates to gameplay.
Up until now, I've been avoiding fighting in CZ, as I can never choose a side.
I'm allied in Fed, and Alliance, and friendly in empire, and I no idea which minor faction to choose, as they're usually neutral.
How do you guys (and gals) determine which side to choose when you're in a non-CG CZ?
Go for the underdogs? Whichever name sounds better?

You can look at the system status menu to see if any of the fighting minor factions are aligned with major factions.
I usually pick the ones that are aligned to keep my rep up with said major faction.

If neither are aligned I usually base it on the system influence tab, fight for the one with the least influence to harm the bigger one (divide and conquer) - Should also secure system better for major faction.

If it's not Alliance faction I'll go for whichever has the most appealling government to me. So generally not corporations or dictatorships.
