Engineers CZs you gotta be kidding me

If I was fighting in a CZ and saw a CMDR appear in a Corvette, and join the other side - that's absolutely the next ship I'd focus on destroying.

The whole conflict zones have to be remade, right now it's a chaotic butchery, this is what it should be:

- Front zone: the main fight is here, very high danger.
- Back zone: it's still dangerous but overhaul far more allies are around.
- Safe zone: high security over here, you can still see fights but they are far enough for you to be almost safe. Generals and advisers are usually here commanding the fight from afar.

And the same zones for the opposite side, all this equal: you can infiltrate, you can support, you can avoid danger (most of the time), you can make logical decision.

I decided to try out a CZ for the first time since 2.1

I was flying a fully A spec Federal Corvette with over 1,600 shield (my half billion credit flagship).

My first attempt. In the time it took me to kill a single viper a vulture took out my shields despite me using a full load of A class shield cell banks. I powered up my 2nd set of shield cell banks and got back to full shields and started chasing the vulture. 2 more ships started firing on me, my 1,600mj of shield lasted all of 10 seconds and i had to jump out getting away with 77% hull.

My second attempt. I killed a cobra, then attacked a vulture. 2 more ships started firing on me, my 1,600mj of shield lasted all of 10 seconds and i had to jump out getting away with 80% hull.

My third attempt. The moment i chose a side, 3 ships fired on me and took my shields out in less than 5 seconds. I cant remember how much hull i had left.

My first thoughts are, did the patch the other day that removed bugged engineer upgrades from NPCs work?

If it did and things are working as intended then i have to ask FD, are you kidding me? CZs should not be no go areas for the biggest baddest combat ship in the game. I shudder to think what would happen if i went in with a FDL or vulture, insta death?

Now FD, i can accept that combat may have needed to be made harder, but this is ridiculous. Game design 101, when you increase the difficulty of something in a live game, you increase it by a reasonable amount you dont multiply the difficulty by a factor of what in my opinion is at least 20. I used to be able to kill ships in CZs until i got bored/tired, maybe killing a hundred ships or more in one visit. To change that to 'lucky to kill one ship and get out alive' is not reasonable.

Please FD, be reasonable, i really want to play this game but i am starting to think that you dont want me to. For the time being, i will consider CZs off limits, but if this situation is not resolve then i can assure you i will be leaving this game. Any combat is not fun anymore, even 'safe' fights 1v1 vs a wanted ship is just a frustrating waste of time spending minutes to kill ships that used to be taken out in seconds.

It is a crying shame to see a game that is a fantastic technological and programming maserpiece fail because of poor game design and shoddy balancing.

Hello cmdr Qarnac,
i can really feel with you :( i had the same experience in my freshly corvette. Before 2.1 all worked well with it, slowly but well. Now after 2.1 it isn't possible to go alone in the CZ's with bg ships alone. For these ships a wing is recommended. I think this is something that get changed when we can store and deploy our fighters in next big updates. The AI handles extreme vs the players, they ignore other npc's shooting at them complete, but with more player (-controled) ships, the AI seems to get dumb not sure, at whom they shoot at first^^

My suggestion for you is as following. Forget the Corvette, use better small/medium and very agile combatships. I made very very good experience with the FAS, it feels like the boss in the CZ. As same as good is the FDL, he got nerfed but with the new class 4 weapons (except the beam...don't even think about it^^) he works very well. The Vulture is as great too, she is so agile, you can stand out of shootline from the enemys. FOR ALL SHIPS i can highly recommend the Bi-Weave shields, nothing else. Against the new AI forget the Prismatics, forget the standard shields, just use the Bi-Weaves. The fast recharge rate is all what count on PVE. And you have to handle FAoff/on really good. It did take a while but slowly i get used to it. There are new tricks to capture the npc's on their balls ;D It will need a lot of practice but if you have it, than it work as same well as in 2.0.

so far, fly safe cmdr Quarnac
i hope i was a little help

Just get a Vulture, was now about 2 hours in a cz getting bonds for Bris. Lost my shields once, could have been avoided if I would take SCBs with me (I won't!)

The npc's are way over powered and they are constantly trying to pull me out of warp. Its very annoying and they almost kill me every time. I have lost one ship to a fur de lance. I fly a Cutter for trade and all they send after me are Fur de lance's and Anaconda's constantly and there very over powered. They get me down to 60% hull damage before I can get away. My cutter is fit well it's the npc's not me.This has totally ruined the game for me. I am not playing anymore till this is fixed. I use to play so much that I have been able to get a Cutter and a Corvette. Now I don't play at all well done FD. I hate the engineers patch they should trash it and go back to the way the game was when people enjoyed playing.

erm not sure what this has to do with CZ?

Bottom line is, IMO they haven't improved the 'intelligence' of NPCs in 2.1 at all - they've really just buffed the damage they can deal.

That damage boost comes either in the form of the new missile splash damage, or that rail'n'bail tactic where Engineer-modded engines (and the new enhanced ones) allow NPCs to line up standard railguns more frequently, meaning more dps for them.

I have also started to believe this is the case. They removed the npc bug from 2.0 (stationary rotating npc bug) and then just buffed npc stats. What limited testing i did with some random commander he couldn't take out my shields with vulture with one beam and one Pa as fast as npc with same ship and load out. Also npc are master snipers haven't yet seen one miss my anaconda or python in turn/head on while most players can't make same shots. I feel like npc have unrealistically high change to hit player with PA, rails and missiles, engineered engines (maybe shields too) and some other other chances to npcs stats to give them edge over player.

Frontier say that npc don't cheat but i am not so sure about that. No game developer would admit that their npc cheat/use massively buffed stats.

Honestly they just could have removed the constant deathspiral (which they did) and we all would have applauded.
Actually they didn't really remove much of anything, after the whine patrol got done the new AI is barely any better than the old AI, they still more or less just hang out in front of you. Half of them don't even shoot back at you. Its quite disheartening to see they dummed down the AI because of all the crying babies.

It's great, no more fodder farming, and big is not always better it's what you do with it that counts.
