I'm a bit of a roleplaying guy and I had some free time to make these Pilots Licenses. At first I figured I would only be using it for my signature, but maybe others are interested as well (for signatures or roleplay reasons or for someone's commander's blog) and I figured I should share. If there's enough interest and people like it, maybe I could start a thread to archive the licenses, where you could have a look at your fellow spacefaring folk and what place they call home (and perhaps you could pay a visit).

If someone is really bad in Photoshop or doesn't have it, but likes the idea and wants a license, I just might do it for you. Although I have a help chart in the spoiler tags that should be self-explainatory.

Anyway here are the examples for myself, normal format and you can see the signature version in my... signature.

Sorry to say but, probably because I have an old old photoshop version, the field entry function doesn't work for me (says I have to convert to 8 bit, where upon the layers get locked, sigh)

+1 rep for the project though, a really nice job, and a great heads' up on the font, which I did download. I was looking for that, thanks!

As for archive you suggest, another nice idea.
How about an online database even; search commander name, show licence if available?

B'cause .. when I eventually do get a ship (currently grounded, don't actually need a licence yet) I won't be dealing with ANYONE who can't show me a copy of their trade licence, on demand, so I know they're good for their credits! :D

I would love that, but I'd need some helping hands because I can't really program or host/build a site. A rudimentary version with just this forum and the search function of the browser might suffice.


Edit: Added 8bit versions (let me know if it doesn't work).

I can only encourage this, so you have my blessings! Also, I would like to know how such a thing is done and wouldn't oppose some information on it (if it's too technical or involves a lot of abracadabra coding then it's prolly out of my league, so don't bother if that's the case :)). And I would like to request that you'd keep the site with the form in line with the color scheme of Elite (and these licenses/signatures), but won't hold it against you if that's too much trouble. Thanks in advance!

And thanks for the positive reactions; so far it exceeded my expectations with regards to the interest in these sort of things! Don't be shy to post your licenses here, I could add them to the OP to get some more variety in examples (alliance/independent watermarks).


Edit: a little heads up, the signature is too big for if you want to add a line of text (height must be 120px to be allowed ONE line of text).

This is just a very early release so it looks like crap but you can see my progress so far.

Need to add Qualifications, ship selection, rank colors/symbols and a way to upload your avatar.

Later after I get this template looking good I will add the other templates as an option, and eventually add the ability to just edit the image so you never have to update the link. That way you never have to change signatures every again.

Great Job, rep given! Poking around in Photoshop Editor 8, not too fluent with the software. I don't know if I'm getting all of the right layers as in your 'help' spoiler in your OP. Can't seem to open the folders for some reason... looks like it's off to scour the internet for PSE help videos.

EDIT: Looks like it's an intentional limitation of Photoshop Elements. As of PE10, there is still no support for layer groups, so I'm not able to open the individual folders in the layers screen. According to one website, someone with Photoshop will need to remove all layer groups before saving, as PE won't allow us to edit individual layers inside a layer group.
