Damn he was good... how to escape?

Despite your loss, for which you have my sympathies, it's still great to know that we have these dudes flying around in their tiddly little ships, and still managing to bring the pain to the big boys.
Questions of griefing and engineering aside, their skill and cheek show us just what can be done in the game.
I'm sure the developers love to see these kinds of shenanigans.

If this encounter didnt "catch me by the heart", I would not have posted it here ;-)

...there was hardly any "loss" :-D it was just a cheap iEagle ;) and some pitifull bounty vouchers I didnt care to cache in ;-)

Everything was legit... I was wanted, he was clean, lesson learnt - if you know what i mean...

what matters is your top speed. if your ship is overloaded enhanced thrusters won't do squat, even modded. particularly enhanced ones, they have very low optimal mass, meaning your ship must be specially light to benefit from them.

maybe you know this already, but ideally your ship's total weight (incl cargo, fuel and drugs) should not exceed 50% of your thruster's optimal mass. from there up performance degrades rapidly (going lower doesn't help as it's capped).

A minor correction here: For Enhanced Performance thrusters the best speed comes at 75% of optimal mass or below, not 50%. However, enhanced performance thrusters have lower optimal mass than regular thrusters. You can actuially see in Outfitting the mass you want to be below for best speed - it's listed as "Minimum Mass".

These Sidewinder threads recently reminded me of the oldendays of MWO, where I knew a Jenner pilot of extreme skill. He could fight anything and win in that little thing, even against multiple opponents far outgunning and outweighing him.

Hi-wake, but do not aim for the vector when starting to jump. Keep turning as if you are still fighting him, and only aim for the vector after the charge is complete.

Exactly what I was about to post. Get into a turn fight with the enemy, but do not deploy hardpoints. Just play the turn battle while charging the FSD. When it's charged, align and you are gone.

Hi commanders,

just a little story I wanted to share...

I made a journey of 9 jumps to Shinrarta in my experimentally modded imp. eagle... (in open). I wanted to switch to some other ship. Its kinda weird build (low emmisions PP, reinforced bi-wave shield, clean drive tuning thrusters, glass armour lightweight, high ammo chaff launcher, overcharged MC with corrosive shell, long range fixed pulses).

When I arrived, USS (weapon fire detected) appeared, so I wanted to check it out... I ended up wanted (209Cr), I accidentally shot a wanted ship before scan.
Back in SC, a player in shieldless sidewinder interdicted me.

I do not like PvP, I didnt want to fight, so I tried to run. I was really surprised, I could not run away from that sidey, he must have had really well modded thrusters. When my shields dropped, I tried to "turn around, boost past him and continue boosting away before he turns", but in a few seconds, he was at my six again and I was receiving damage. I saw I will not jump out in time, so I turned to fight.

He was really good pilot, I on the other hand am rusty, I returned to Elite after long time and my piloting skills apparently decreased... I could not hit him well enough with my fixed pulses, so i mainly kept firing with gimballed MC. I did very little damage to him and he sloughtered me without mercy - I dont care about the pitiful rebuy, the travel time lost hurt me much more...

I tried all kinds of manouvers to dodge his fire (he had some kind of rapid firing cannons)... FA OFF rolling + vertical thrust (spiral), random lateral + verticatl thrust, FA ON vertical thrust + pitch, ...
Damn he was good, I was able to get out of that fireworks only for seconds, in no time he was back on me.

In a situation like this: unable to outrun the oponent, difficulties to dodge his fire... how can one manage to escape?

To the sidey pilot: wow, damn that hurt! Maybe someday we may meet again and then... ;-)

Cheers, Karlos

P.S.:
I got into similar situation in my corvette, FDL with some modified weapons, which always somehow prevented me from charging FSD was slowly but steadily weakening my shield, I could not escape and I knew it. In desperation I wrote into chat, that I surrender, I respectfully asked for my life. And the pilot was a gentleman, he let me leave. His spectating wingman (probably he would have joined the fight if FDL got in trouble, but I never returned fire) and him must have loughed hard ... :/

If surviving is more of an appeal than fighting i can only really suggest you mod yourself a ship that can outrun most aggressors. A lightweight imperial courier will get well over 750 boost speed when fitted with light mods. It can outmaneuver most NPC you will meet and outrun any commander whos fit for combat. Other than that i cant really suggest anything as like you said he was an excellent pilot and you couldnt shake him.

A combat sidey can travel anywhere around 550 - 650 depending on modules , my light combat build courier can travel at 540 cruise and boost to 740 , if i fit for speed instead of cambat it would most likely be around the 800 mark but i like to have some teeth in my builds.

Yeah, once have been interdicted and attacked by a very good pilot with a sidey, i was in my hull tank FAS, running 2 long range C2 PA and 2 Pacifiers.

Man, that cmdr was really good and the sidey small hitbox wasn't helping either. At the end of a long jousting fight i left him with 1% hull and stowed hardpoint, complimenting him for the fight skills. I believe actually one of the funniest fight i had. Wish i could have been on a smaller and less modified ship, i felt a little bit like cheating with the FAS against his Sidewinder. I had my wingmates standing by, they wouldn't never join a 1 vs 1 duel, even if i was going to get destroyed.

An hell of a fighter pilot i met out there, and if you are reading this and remember the fight, again, cudos to you for your fighting skills.

lol - I can't remember that guy's name but he was good! If I recall, we pirated him in another ship and he came back in that Sidey to have at it. That fight was a lot of fun to watch, and he was all over your FAS.

OP, did you try to high wake out?

The story does indeed remind me of a certain Archon-affiliated CMDR in a heavily modded sidey with enforcer cannons. Rumor has it that he has managed to kill a CMDR in almost every type of ship there is out there, using said sidewinder.

Good story OP.

He's on a break!

...but there are many copy-cats out there - I've been interdicted by three with identical loadouts ie Scipio Hispanicus (sp?) et al

EDIT: Oh!! [blah] Archon has just uploaded a new vid today...so I humbly concede to being wrong, for the first time ever!

NB - Actually, there was this one other time when I thought I was wrong about something...but it turned out I was in fact right!

I still find it comical we need to reward players who choose not to cheat...

I agree ... I chose to play in open - i was helping a new player (he was in open) and wanted to switch to a more suitable ship - so I was ready to eat the consequences...

As I stated before - I do not prefer PvP...

In the rare occasions, when I am forced to PvP or when I actually seek it and I ACCIDENTALLY MANAGE TO WIN THE FIGHT, I do not kill. I leave them with a little hull left and chat instead of just pewpew KABOOM. I find it more entertaining that way.

:( I panicked a little... I was trying to jump to SC ... My bad.

Yes when we pirated him he was in a FDS :D, can't remember his name either
