Where is the dark region?
Turn on your headlights.
What's your ship & loadout?
ADS & DSS are essential IMHO, so is at least 1 SRV
AFMU if you have room.
Ok got you.
Well, take a route that is not direct or go off in the +z or-z axis for the best chance at in discovered systems. My guess is those have been hit a bunch so it may take looking for an undiscovered system.
Tips:
Scoop red dwarf stars from the side. It is easier to control staying out of its exclusion zone.
Don't stop at unidentified signals near the star. It will cause damage trying jump out that close to a star.
Turn off anything non essential, if you do get pulled out by a star. It will keep you temp. As low as possible and minimize damage.
Make sure you have the best scanners you can afford to make the trip as productive as possible.
Neutron stars are misleading because of their tiny size they will look like a planet but because of their mass they still have a star sized exclusion zone. You need to keep your approach speed way down to be safe. Inside of 10ls and pay attention.
Enjoy, Enjoy, and Enjoy.
I'm still out on my first trip. Loving the experience.
