Data corrupted

Data corrupted please try again

I just go this message when scanning a star.

It sat on the analysing message for 15 or so seconds and then a red message in the alert screen flashed up the data corrupt msg.

Anyone else had this and is it FD's attempt to immerse the double scan into our lives? :)

Its a rare one but I think its something to do with the webserver not properly logging your scan.

I find hyperspaceing to another system, then back to the unscannable one and trying again usually fixes it. :)

It started scanning again as soon as the message came up.

It was like the classic double scan only with the message included. Also it was an in game message, as opposed to the lost connection server\system type of message.

It wasn't a rare one up till the last mini patch (for me). Happened more often scanning main stars pre 1.3.03 (and a hell of a lot in 1.2)than the double scans. Even had em appear after I'd scanned, and got the body info.

Def server linked.

Well I have done 4000 plus systems and scanned thousands of times and this is the first time that message has flashed up - wonder why I have never seen it before?

Dunno - out of c.8,000 systems I've pootled around I reckon around 10% pre 1.3 did it to me. Rarely got double scans, although it took an age for the honk to show anything in a large number of em (and sometimes got the 'x bodies found' without em showing on my HUD).

Not my connection borking either as on an indie ISP/Fibre.

I've only had it three or four times since November.

The first time I saw it was at the Eta Carina Nebula back in gamma, I thought I'd found a Magerathea that was closed for business and deliberately blocking my scan :D

Come on guys...

Ok it's an issue that those systems we have zoomed around exploring may have a scanning issue.

But I for one don't actually care - but I get some do. Behind this amazing game is a huge amount of data being stored, numbers and more numbers.

I only raised the point because it hadn't happend to me before and more importantly I had hoped it was a fix for the double scan, where the double scan still happend but we got a more realistic errror message that had a more "in game" feel. But it appears not tobe the case.

Having said that - I have only had that one double scan all day - so maybe they are on top of the whole thing anyway :)

Enjoy it and live with what amounts to not life threatening consequences !! Come on guys - it's a game :)

Seriously and kidding aside, could be your connection is down. It is whenever that happens to me.

It appeared in the info bar in the cockpit, where other ingame messages appear like "prox" etc - it wasn't a connection type pop up box. It was no big deal, but as I had never had a red info message of that type before appear in the cockpit message system I just wondered if it was a new thing.......

From my experience it is related to network issues between you and the server.

My "broadband" (lol) connection has intermittant problems, and I've seen plenty of data corrupt messages at those times.

The client is trying to sync your scan with the server records. Normally this exchange should be quick, but if there is an issue then the client will wait for a timeout before giving up and repeating the scan.

The "corrupt data" message is trying to explain the failure "in-game" without breaking the immersion.

From the behaviour, this problem is independent of the double-scan issue. There is no evidence of the client waiting on a time-out before a double-scan occurs. That is either an issue server-side (bad response) or client-side.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the post, but in (I'm guessing) excess of 20,000 scans I had never ever received that message - and whilst I didn't have 20,000 double scans, I have had a LOT. It can't be a network error or I would have had it before.

Again no big deal, but the fact it was part of the in ship message system made it appear a non game system issue - to wit (and I have always wanted to use the word "WIT" in this format :) ) I had merely hoped it was FD's attempt to immerce the double scan into the game (as you allude to).

But as other comanders have been receiving this message many many times and I have not, points to something other than immersion :(
