Data delivery missions WITH A CONTACT after 3.3

1) There are the simple data delivery missions you accept at a station there you get the data immediately and then deliver the data to another station.

and

2) There are the data delivery missions accept from a message where you have to meet someone to get the data in one system and deliver that data to another system.

I'm referring to the number 2 situation. To get the data on one of these missions before the 3.3 release, If I remember correctly, I would either honk the first system with the ADS and/or scan the nav beacon and then know for sure where to go in that first system to meet with the contact to get the data. Now days, when I take one of these data delivery with contact missions then honk and scan there is a great possibility that I still will not know where to go in the system to meet my contact.

Maybe someone can help me understand the new reasonable way of doing these missions without having to slowly fly by (in SC) every planet in the system or use the FSS?

If I do have to potentially do as much as a full system fly by OR if I have to do a 100% scan of the system with the FSS (which I hate), I would consider all of these data delivery with contact missions completely dead to me.

Actually, in my specific current case a full FSS scan would not help because the system is fully discovered already so don't worry about my FSS comments above.

I did notice that each time I drop into the first system, I get a message from an NPC specifying their name but no where they are. I tried several times to scan (in SC) all the NPC ships in the system to find that contact, but that was not productive either, as a figured it wouldn't be.

Any pointers for some simple thing I might have missed?

EDIT: On the third or fourth time of jumping out and back into the first system, I was finally able to find my contact on the contacts tab on the left panel and follow their low wake. Completing the mission was normal after that. Has anyone else found this to be as inconsistent as I have?

Normally if they message you then they will approach, drop to normal space and then you follow them and drop on their wake (I normally do this for assassination redirects, so data missions might be different, but probably not).

Having said that, last night I had one appear, then zoom off into the distance never to be seen again, so maybe it's been broken by Update 2... need more data

Well, after finally getting it to work (explanation above in red), I guess it's not completely broken ... but maybe a little bent! ;)
