Data from Ship Scans now less frequent?

Has anyone else noticed a reduction in the chances of collecting data from ship scans since Horizons was released?

It might just be me experiencing unlucky RNG, but I seem to only be getting data from ships around 1 in every 30 scans now. It used to be more like 1 in 5.

Anyway, I'm not raising a bug just yet - I'm keen to hear other people's experience with this first.

If the frequency has indeed been reduced, does anyone know of an alternative way to collect data that would otherwise only have been available via ship scans?

I've noticed the same thing but think it's better this way. That kind of ship scanning data should be uncommon, like some anomaly or something.

Try with an A rated sensors

I noticed this last week so I fitted one of the heavy bricks onto my war fighter and engineered its weight down

I get scans from almost every ship now.

Some days I feel like I get quite a few, multiple from some ships, and some days seems like I get none at all.

When 3.0 dropped I got quote a few ACED but now none

I've noticed this too.

The success frequency has no connection to sensor rating. And I can't confirm any changes in success frequency with 3.0. Within a few days, I have 'farmed' hundreds of those encoded mats.
Tip 1: the larger the ships and the higher the combat ranking, the higher your success rate (and the grade of material).
Tip 2: Scanning ships in SC is quite efficient, if you are not allied to the controlling faction. The latter identifies the Security Forces automatically for you, so you can't scan these high value targets (i.e large ships, high combat ranking).
Tip 3: Results in Combat Zones are actually quite acceptable, as well. Just don't pick a side. :)

I'd say that 1 in 30 is around what Iv found when scanning ships in SC. Though Iv never been interested in even doing this in the past, since 3.0 & the mats trader, I'm now scanning when I can.

I'd have no idea what this ratio was previous versions & the idea of replacing my D rated module with an A rated one is interesting.

It could be RNG - but I think some posters are on the money here:

A-rated scanner - 3 hour session, ~ 1 in 3 ships gave me something [maxed out most of my data bins]
D-rated scanner - 3 hour session, ~ 1 in 20 ships gave me something - at the time just assumed RNG - but now I think I will explicitly test tonight.

Both were on 3.0 - so unless 3.02 actually nerfed in an undocumented way, I think posters are on to something.

I also collected max 100 Datamined Wake Exceptions very quickly - and I've double-checked - it was with an A-rated scanner... That must just be luck?

Interesting responses - thanks guys!

I'm also keen to test out the A-Rated scanner theory.

I'll post my own experiences on here when I've had a chance to test it in the next few days. My play time is sporadic at the moment, so don't wait for me.
