Horizons Data Point. What to do?

I was exploring out in uncivilized space quite a ways out (at least for me), and I found a random data point at a random point of interest on a random planet. I scanned it, and got a data package. I don't know what to do now though.

I looked on the elite wikia and it says "scanning data points gives Data Point Intel Packages which can be redeemed with a specific Major Faction for Credits."

I got the package, but which major faction? Does it matter? And where do I hand it in? (Is it ok I don't see it in my inventory?)

It doesn't appear in inventory, it's a sort of mission, so it's in the place where you see the missions you've accepted. It should say there that it's for Empire or whatever; you can cash it in at any station with a presence from the named power/faction.

Just curious about one thing,
try to note the system you found it.
When selling the data check for the distance to the system you've found it and try to travel a bit further and check again.
Wondering if there's any price/distance relationship going on.

Um, I thought it got added to your left hand panel transactions list... Mine seem to when I'm out exploring???

Select it from your contacts list and then you can scan it from your SRV. You'll then get a data entry in your mission list which you redeem at the appropriate station, federation or empire.
