Ok. I know someone probably answered this already, but i cant find the specific answer i need. Trade data federal navy retrieval mission. That is the title of the mission. I went to the system and located the planet (has the mission marker over it). Now what? Cant land, so its not on the planet. I keep checking USS sites but just get attacked, and none of the cargo that flies out is the data. Where do i go?

I've done many "Boom Data Retrieval" missions, but not the one you mention. I'd think they are similar, if not identically achieved. Jump into the system, honk with your ADS, then fly to the planet indicated. Keep circling that planet until you hear the voice announce it's found, and you'll see it in bright blue text. Look on your Nav tab if you don't see it through your window. I've only had to honk once in any system.
If you are repeatedly attacked, SC away, then come back and try again. You have to be quick and sly. Good luck.
The USS appears blue while you are in super cruise and labels it "mission". The computer voice will also say something to the effect of "Mission signal located". Once you get the voice notification, you can use your left panel navigation to select the source and drop in as normal.
Typically in my experience, it takes a few laps around the planet before the signal source reveals itself, and it is never directly in front of me.

It also helps to bring a few collector limpets, speeds up the retrieval. If you are not being attacked, one limpet will be enough for all canisters. If you are being hassled, target a canister and shoot a limpet. The limpet will die after picking up the canister, but it's fast enough to beat the pirates. You may need multiple tries to get your quota.
