POWERPLAY

At the moment I think we should all be aware that the background simulator does not work so there is no point taking part in POWERPLAY until Frontier start to fix the bugs this may take a long time as they are not working on fixing the bugs they are working on the newer XBOX1 version.
-------------------------------------------------------
So like all those that were working on the background simulator before POWERPLAY was released you will all be wasting your time.

They paid to develop Elite for PC and Mac, and they got exactly what they paid for. Consider CQC as a new game, set in the same universe, paid for by Microsoft to showcase their new "Early Access" platform.

No no no...

They didn't get what they paid for, as much of the game still feels like placeholders
This ISNT a new game we are talking about... Just a new direction and platform when the the first still feels incomplete.

Developing 3D superstructure models has got to be (another) one of the most labour intensive of FD development jobs for ED. If CQC funds itself, then those models can go into the main game under procedural generation rules as far as I can see .. So why not? Basic flight model, peer to peer networking, even closed training sessions, already exist, so it's smart to use those resources for other things imo.

Sport in the year 3000. I imagine the Sirius Corporation funds a lot of its black market activities from entertainment royalties. Big fights for big prizes and lots of possibilities .. Have a high combat ranking? Find yourself invited by the Corp to fly for them, in a trial ship they will provide. Arrive in your own (secret location) leave with an upgrade if you're successful.

It's a brave new world ladies and commanders .. please deal with and get back behind the concept of the main game and of FD doing whatever it takes to support that. Science, and by this I mean exploration goodies and high concept planetary landing,s does not come cheap and it does not pay well. For me this introduction does not spell doom for the main game, nor speak of not caring about the star forge, but of providing pure cash cow. Plus it looks like a blast.

+1 from me .. (oh, early access .. this feature wasn't covered by kickstarter description)

Well, what can I say?
I am really disappointed about FD, leaving their backers alone, but understand that M$ isn't interested in them. When dealing with M$, then you do it following their rules. BTW.: They for sure don't want or allow a buggy exclusive title.

I feel somewhat disappointed by David, already taking the step to the next Game for PC, as I can't imagine that it will be another big deal like E : D

And I am disappointed about your reactions. Only because we can't imagine how this can work, it isn't bad before it exists!

Missed the part that CQC will also come to the PC? So they have ultimately taken nothing away from the PC.

Except for all the development time to fix bugs that they did to develop an arena commander system for ED that no one really wants anyways, that we won't even get at all until <undetermined date>

Absolutely not. Please read the blog again if you're unsure, and try to be reasonable. I know this is great for Elite: Dangerous and the team who have worked so hard on making the game an amazing experience. It will only improve the support we can offer to our existing playerbase.

WOW upset what you mean we are all upset maybe if you had been fixing the bugs and not pretending you were we may be a bit happier, but then you start to give all the new centent to the XBOX1 users instead of the people that helped support and get the game writen. Upset i think it is an understatement i wish i could reply with just how i feel.

Hiya Edward. :)

Timed exclusive content for Xbox One? I'm not a console hater, and I'm not in my 70s and near death, so I'm not really bothered personally. Given the nature of this content (Arena shooter) it probably does fit the console user base moreso than the PC, and so it's pretty logical. The PC version will probably require a bit more work as well, as consoles are notoriously difficult to apply cheats to.

As long as the arena mode isn't tied to the Elite universe itself, the game we're all playing and the background simulation, I don't see much of an issue with it.

However....

You asked us to pay £50 or more to be beta backers for your game. And we paid willingly. But to Xbox users you're offering them a discount to be beta backers. That's quite a slap in the face. I feel, right now, like Frontier used and abused my trust in them as a company quite frankly. I'm sure I'll be less angry in the morning, and I sincerely doubt that you cold-bloodedly set out to fleece your PC customers and early backers. You obviously needed more resources to get this thing off the ground and we helped you with that. But this announcement has left me with a very bitter taste towards your company right now, and a lot of the anger directed towards FDev by this community is quite reasonable.

Please think about it.

What i´m really really interested its about 1.3.04, .0.5, .0.6, ...
And what about Powers local chat channels? Any plans about that? Doesn´t these seem kind of urgent?

Sad that this just confirms a tact on game mode rather than something that is fully integrated into the Elite: Dangerous universe. This could have been awesome if it was done properly.

Different powers running their own competitions.
Having to rise through the different leagues.
Link this rise to the mission system so that players who get notice by the powers at be offers them special one off missions.
Player teams,
Community goals to construct new arenas which could impact local economies. Such a economic investment could destabilise systems leading to rebellion, which lead to half completed arenas,
News feeds that reports on player progress through different competitions
Allow players to bet against who will be victorious against each other.
Having to travel to different tournaments, imagine players getting ambush of the way to next round in a tournament.

Very disappointing indeed that Frontier have miss so many opportunities to add depth to the game.

Edward, can you answer these questions:

#1 judging by David's post, there's no news about new *core* gameplay features. Arena is basically quick and dirty mode for impatent people, and XBO console port is interesting and I wish good sales for you, but really not that interesting. I want to know more about post 1.3 plans. Will you talk about them during E3? If not, it feels like very missed opportunity;
#2 Are crossplay still considered or it didn't work out? It was never promised, but would be interesting to what conclusions you came;

Nope, gotta develop for consoles. Rest of game will be fixed at <undetermined date> just as arena mode will be released on pc at <undetermined date>.

Loving the fact CQC could well bring a new generation to Elite. The cash flows from this could provide the content we are all looking for. I think sometimes we need to stop and consider the wider picture. The 1.5 million from KS was a proof of concept, not funding for the game. FD are trying to secure that funding, if XBox get some functionality in advance of pc, but it secures more funding, is it not better to get the funding? Listening to this thread I begin to wonder what we actually want!

The other elephant in the room is what happens to all the xbox players who spend a couple of months of fast paced ship on ship action and then get released in to the galaxy at large to do things like "Ship 5t of veg 20lyrs to become a general"?

Remember that ship you've been playing with for the past 2 months? Well now if you want to fly it you have to spend 50hrs flying back and forth in 2 systems trading to be able to afford it . . .

The reason why people are mad is because of the current lack of content in the game and we've seen your development time being used on pp and cqc instead of the ddf features and gameplay mechanics to add depth. Grinding merits isn't depth.

Given the very obvious lack of foresight that went into powerplay it's clear that they don't really have a solid idea of what they're doing or what their overall plan is. The past few weeks have demonstrated a very ad-hoc approach to development.

Yes, it makes sense to put out this arena shooty thing on the Xbox first if you look at it superficially. But as you say, that will lead to consequences when you really think about it. For example, if World of Tanks gave all new players the Maus or IS-7 for a week, then threw them back to tier 1, hardly anyone would bother with it.

Giving people the end game at the start of the game is just an amateur move, unless you can only use ships from your Elite save in these PvP arenas.

My other complaint is that Frontier is pretty stupid for not having something to announce for PC gamers at E3 and having only Xbox One announcements at least that seem the case with this blog, even if that was just what coming in the next 1.4 patch, even if that is confirmation that we are getting two or three news ships and may be the ability to name our ships. An they really should have explain how CQC should work from the outset, leaving us with no details is just fanning the flames on the forums.

It those type of details which Frontier should know by now us forum users want straight away not when Microsoft PR office say they can give it to us.

It'll be even worse in their first pvp in open space when they lose shields then die in seconds due to power plant shots. It'll be hard to hit a powerplay when you're flying and fighting in corridors.

The things is, in the long run they're going to balance the pvp combat from feedback from cqc. Mark my words.

I've nothing against somethings being xbox exclusive but to sideline experienced players who've been beta testing for over a year and leave it up to players who are picking the game up for the first time is a bad move.
