DayZ a simulator where you run a lot

I play this game alot, and comparing it to ED really is easy as the game mechanics are very similar.

Check it out here, BTW its heavily based on PvP!

This is a game it sounded really cool reading about it, especially stories people would tell of stuff that happened to them and it sounded like something i really wanted to do. So I picked it up with my brother, we played it a few nights but haven't touched it since. Only about 1 on 5 game restarts resulted in a successful start, the other 4/5ths character would starve to death before I could find anything to eat or drink. Try to work together, forget it. The respawns would have one of us just trying to figure out where the hell we were by looking for road signs, then have to sprint across the map and hope one could reach the other to team up before they starved to death. It also seemed no matter how well I did, my character would eventually just die anyway for some unknown reason. I could only hope my brother was around to pick up my backpack full of stuff. Game had some adrenaline moments, especially with other people you run across, but in the end frustration far outweighed any fun we were having. I know its been patched alot since I played, so I don't know whats changed. Someday, when I'm really bored, I may try again.

Heh, DayZ. People who played this will never ever complain about 'forced PVP' or 'griefing' in Elite, because it's nothing in comparison. In DayZ you WILL be killed if the are people on the server, it's not a question of 'if' but 'when'. Absolute essence of brutal and merciless environment, and ED in open is just a walk in a park in comparison.

I've often thought "what if Elite was more like DayZ...?". Wandering round 'Chernogorsk' always strikes me as functionally equivalent to doing an Elite CG in open. :)

I spent 100's of hours playing the mod, but progress on standalone seems absolutely glacial.

To their credit, progress is still there. Their recent engine overhaul was massive. No more 20fps on modern machines, it actually runs kind of decent now. This change was so necessary. Shows that they at least get their priorities straight. However, I agree development process of this game is extremely slow.

It is, however its still fun even with all the bugs, just like ED :D
I believe we will see a faster development now, its already improved a lot this year. I love the new weapon mechanics and of course the improved engine. And the best part is that the developers do not cave in to the winners. DayZ are a grind to gear up, it is a huge griefer party and that is just a part of the game.

DayZ MOD was where it all started and where all these toher "survival" games came from. I played the MOD for about 2 years solid and it was brilliant. The very nature of the game, collecting stuff for hours then having the chance of losing all that work to someone else gave a certain feel to combat that most other games will never give you. EVER. Roll on to the Stand Alone and progress is sllllllloooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Last year quarter 1 the new rendering engine was pipelined and didn't come in until a year and a quarter later. What there is now is good though. The game looks great so if you like running around the countryside looking for loot with chance PVP encounters and having to think about your moves and getting good on the use of a compass then it's a lot of fun. The new miltary base up north north (lol) Tisli or something, will require the use of gasmasks eventually.

There's enough stuff to craft now for the survival element though once you get off the coast, finding food isn't an isse as there's always cans of food somewhere but you can live off the land if you want too.

Ah, the good old dayz :) Taking hours to sneak up on that fully equipped sniper on the hill outside Cherno, with an old rusty rifle I found in a barn somewhere. Shooting him through the head from less than ten feet away, only to be shot by his mate who was also wearing a Gilly-suit. :D

DayZ the mod that dragged the Arma player base into the gutter. The first couple of months were fun. KOS was rare and team work was common. Youtubers get streaming it and the hordes of children start buying Arma 2 so they can enact their misanthropic fantasies out on unsuspecting Mil Simmers.

The good thing is all those so CoD kiddies boosted Arma 2 and Arma 3 sales exponentially. Let alone the SA

True, but I really like the new game mechanics, like you have to reload the mosin and other bolt-action rifles after each shot.

Had the same experience on the SAS server. Shot one of their guys at point blank. Didn't spot the ghille suited guy next to him (who, to be fair hadn't spotted me either on the approach. :) )

Also loved two kids killing me for my M4, and leaving an M249 with 700 rounds on the grass. I spawned again about 300 yards from where they were. Ran. Picked up the LMG, and emptied it into the treeline where they were hiding. Got both. And a lot of accusations about hacking. :D Or the guy with an axe I led on an epic chase, who didn't believe the gun I was carrying was loaded, no matter how many times I told him in chat. Let him chase me for 20 minutes, before shooting his legs out.

Ah! DayZ - you misanthropic story generator you! :)
