For a long time now I have been pulling skimmer/base raids in a DBS. I loved it, but just kitted up a heavy duty DBX for the purpose. It's magnitudes more fun. Much sturdier, more fun taking out the skimmers and turrets (with a gimballed 3MC, and size 2 dumbfires). More reason now than ever to get on the ground and steal data once I've wiped out defenses.

Awesome fun...

Not sure the SCBs/Heat Sink are needed, but it makes me feel more like a gunship pilot.

Not so good at taking on ground-sitting Vultures though as targets of opportunity. Fair bit of guidance.

Unrelated piece of advice, try and get a grade 1 powerplant mod, they are super cheap (sulphur IIRC) and a good roll can get you more than the 9% extra you need to not have to play with power priorities.

Will do. Thanks!

Oh, and it turns out the SCB is still necessary. Those AA turrets have some teeth.

Thanks for posting the build.

I've not done many ground missions and I don't think I've ever owned a DBX, so there's two new things to do :)

Yeah, man, try it out. Definitely take the SCBs.

Here it is, all ready to go (actually I'm gonna give it some Engineering first). There is a Low Res right next to the station so I'm going to bully some NPCs in it beofre I try out ground attack, lol. Thanks for the tip. It looks weird, sounds great, and the handling is meh. I'll probably love it.

Awesome, man! She's one hell of an gunship. Enjoy!

And get those dirty drives! Even a G1 will make her much more maneuverable.

It's nice to see the DBX get some attention. She's always been my soul-ship: there are other ships with better weapons, better speed, and better shields; there are larger ships, more expensive ships, and more glamorous ships; but at the end of the day, when I need to take a short trip around the bubble or just want to land on a planet and do some sight-seeing, the DBX is my Serenity.

She's the perfect ship for farming specialized legacy firmware :)

Have you tried a Gunship though? Who would've guessed that its exact purpose it fulfills extremely well.

Hardpoint wise the FGS is a good choice,
but, and this is a really big BUT,
the lateral thrusters are way to weak to have that ship operate
well in gravity environments.

The DBX is a pretty cool base raider,
great agility, great lateral thrust to keep it steady.
The Hardpoint loadout is superb and with a large MC
and 2 dumbfire missile racks you really get the
gunship experience the ship layout and design promises.

Totally agree!

I.. raid bases with an SRV?

I've tried ship-raiding bases, but the SRV just does it so well.

Yeah, my tactic too. Ive tried it the other ways and used Dumbfires and MC's on various ships, even mines on my T6 (Better than expected actually. A great area effect weapon but just remember to fly backwards in the T6 while using them...) but in all fairness I quite like the tactical approach of using cover and deciding which way to approach the base in the SRV to give the best angles on the most defence turrets.

I have never owned a DBX though so Im thinking I might pick one up this weekend and give it a blast.

The same tactics you apply with using cover,
does apply to using the DBX, as the ship is pretty small.
+++ high sec settlement defense sniping from peeking corners and such,
pretty much like the old "Descent" PC game series;)
