Newcomer / Intro DBX v Asp X

Why trade it? Just buy the Asp.

I have a DBX, sold my Asp. You can have both, have neither. Have more than one of each.

Why not buy it, try it and decide if you like it?

What spec? For me to buy a ship I need to have a role envisioned for it first. No sense in buying it with no reason to have it, in my estimation. The role will guide the build.

It makes a fantastic explorer. That's what I used mine for, then later it became my planetary lander, outfitted with SRV for gthering raws. Then I owned a bunch of Kraits and the Asp never got used any more. I sell ships if I am not using them. I like a small fleet.

It's got more room for goodies than the DBX, and only jumps a slight bit less.

It's a nice early game miner/taxi/trader.

Some beautiful people even use it for terrorism.

DBX is my main explorer. And although the AspX is marginally better for this (better cockpit, bigger fuel scoop means more jumps per hour, arguably slightly better max jump range, can carry more stuff), the marginal advantages don't outweight it's annoying features - mainly annoying engine sound and more importantly, two bloody halogen beams shining right in your face all the time.

IMO, anyway.

DBX can also land anywhere, while Asp is at that size threshold where sometimes you're going to have problems finding a good landing spot.

I'd say keep the DBX for exploration. Take the money for the Asp and buy... I don't know... a Vulture or something. For combat fun.

I figure that because I have my DBX "taxi" then the asp x would be an explorer. But what do others use it for?
My original AspX was used primarily as a combat ship though I would swap all the Hull Reinforcement Packages for cargo racks for a little hauling from time to time, then I did a little exploring in it but the engine drone got annoying so eventually its replacement became a taxi then post Dolphin being available an exhibit.

I use DBX for taxi and Guardian work. AspX for medium and long range exploration and shard farming. Anaconda for living in the black comfortably for a good long while. AspX does that fairly well too but doesn't quite have the jump or modules of an Anaconda explorer. Love the AspX though. Took it 1.6k ly out tonight actually for a leisurely stroll.

The diamondback explorer can be made to be hold temps around 16% or less with proper outfitting. Id buy the asp because realistically the dbx isnt good for long term exploration unless you like tooling around with power priorities and turning modules off and on as needed. Also high g worlds dont always agree with it.

The asp has a much easier time accommodating all the required modules for long term long range exploration without having to play with power priorities and all that tedious mucking about in hyperspace

To throw the cat amongst the pigeons, I use a Phantom for exploration. For me, it's better than both the DBX and AspX although I used the AspX to get the Guardian FSD blueprint fragment.

The downside is that it's more expensive - but given today's credit making abilities which almost throw money at you, I doubt that'll be an issue.

If you want pure jump range, then building a Jumpaconda should be your aim.

The dbx for me is my taxi. Before carriers where you can now park near shinartra with it and jump to various engineers with low jump ranged combat ships, it's become slightly redundant.
Just an observation. Typically I'd use it for crystal forest or biologicals sites etc farming mats or crash sites. And indeed It still performs this role nicely.
My dbx explorer jumps 70ly.
It's upto you really if your intent on deep exploration I'd suggest the asp because you'll jump to more stars see more and can hold more kit.
Having said that if you wanna quick blast down a neutron highway then the dbx wins hands down. The conda is better than both. But expensive to modify which is pertinant if you haven't got billions.
I don't have an asp. I'm more combat orientated.
But having a dbx jumper is to me still a favourite. Cheap too so I'll always have her in my fleet.

Note:: The dbx runs ultra cool and with a size 4 scoop you move real quick as regards jumping. She can get real close to scoop, stay there without a sink used and fly out of the star cooling off rapidly so u jump from one to the next soooo quick.
