DBX vs Phantom. Which one will be better?

Since im a console cmdr and dont get to play around with beta, at all. I have to rely on you fine PC cmdrs in passing along any good and helpfull info about each upcoming expansion and everything in it.

I havent heard much about the new Krait Phantom but was wondering if it could possibly replace my current bubble hopper/exploration DBX?

What are cmdrs impression of it? Does it handle similar to its big brother Krait? Is it any good? Will it mothball my DBX, like my DBX did to my AspX? What are its flaws, or its greatness?

I really like my current Krait but i dont like having variants of the same base ship model sitting in my hanger.

The Phantom knocks the socks off my DBX as an everyday ship, explorer and bubble taxi.

No way giving up my DBX for it's role as

1. space taxi - 68.5 LY jump range

2. planet lander - 67.5 LY jump range w/ 1 SRV

Used to do all exploration in DBX, especially after the slot buff awhile back but now for dedicated exploration I'm in jump-conda. Otherwise DBX is king for all my bubble needs. Krait-P isn't going to change that.

My fully Engineered, A rated Phantom, looses only 1LY to my similarity spec.'ed rather limited, old DBX. It's a no brainier to switch to The Phantom as an everyday/taxi ship.

So far I really love the Krait Phantom. I don't like stripping my ships down to a cardboard frame, and the Phantom is really awesome for keeping all the stuff you want.
Mine is A rated and is outfitted with an auto repair unit, grabber limpets and a few other extras and still got a range of 52ly.
Engineered the FSD of course and some modules are "stripped" down and "lightweight". Also installed a Guardian FSD booster.

well i had a fully equiped explo' Krait mk2 but as my co-pilot crashes the ship in canyons when im in a fighter i've now dumped the slf and have transfered the modules into the krait phantom and my jump range is now over 69 ly instead of the 56 ly of the mk2. This isnt even a fully lightwieght explo ship as im using class 4 and 5 modules. The phantom also has more than plenty of internals, ive now even got room for better shields and a 2nd AFMU. Also the phantom sounds incredible and feels very agile to fly against the mk2.

It's less sluggish than an Anaconda. It seems to be about the same as an Orca.

Given the choice between an Orca or a Krait Phantom, I'd go for the Phantom: It has the same number of internal slots as the Orca, but the Phantom has a higher jump range, is more manoeuvrable at standard flight speeds, and can also land on a medium pad.

But also something to consider: The Orca is much faster(!!) than the Phantom, the Orca still has a very good jump range and the Orcas Yaw-capabilities is one of the best in the game and much better than the Phantoms. It’s also a marvel of a ship (like the Phantom), and especially now when all compartment restrictions are gone.

The Krait Phantom is a MUCH better explorer than the DBX. Not even comparable. The base jump ranges are comparable, but DBX is majorly hindered by too few and too small optional internals.

That being said, the Krait Phantom is also MUCH more expensive than the DBX. I consider the DBX an excellent short range explorer, but one that starts falling apart on really deep months long missions where the 4A fuel scoop and small everything else would get irritating after a while. One good thing about the DBX, though: It's tiny. Very easy to land on even the roughest surfaces.

Update

I went and got one. The red interior is nice. Still need to do some tweaking on it but got it up to 54lyr range, now i got to get the Guardian booster.

Yep - different strokes for different folks, innit? :)

I'll be honest - it was a *very* difficult choice to make between the Orca and the Phantom. I bought them both and flew them both for a while. The Orca is definitely faster in a straight line, and it does have better yaw. But it's roll is waaaay slower than the Phantom, while the pitch is about the same. This makes the Phantom a fair bit more manoeuvrable at sub-light speeds, which is useful when flying through mountains and canyons.

Compare and contrast:

I'm using the Phantom right now, but I may try the Orca after a shakedown cruise.

If you're planning on a combat stelath build for either ship don't bother.

The new night vision renders stealth ships obsolete. Any stealth ship obsolete.

Been tested :p

No it doesn't. Please stop perpetuating this lie.

Stealth ships with low heat signatures are still unable to be targeted, are still invisible on radar, and still have the same low chance of being detected by NPC's.

Silent running/low heat signature was never intended to be a cloaking device.

Been tested :p

Prove it.

I’m trying to choose between the Phantom and Orca too! I had just specced out and practiced with the Orca for my first trip out to Colonia and exploring, waiting for the update. But last night I bought a Phantom and moved all my modules over and got 3.5 more LY range. I LOvE the downward view out the cockpit (helpful landing on planets and just nice, like the Asp) on the Phantom. But I like the overall look of the Orca, unobstructed view forward, and the handling just felt better somehow in supercruise in the Orca. But the Phantom can land in more places, being smaller. How to decide, ach!
