Dear FDEV, Can we re-balance how ARX are earned

using the earned ARX for low cost items is handy and as a bonus to any bought to top up, but the way they are "earned" is biased against my playstyle, and others it seems from this thread

So would it make you feel better if FD changed everything to cater for you knowing that the rest of the community will now be disadvantaged?

Where did I say that? - take your strawman back to the haystack.

I am simply highlighting that the way ARX are earned ingame is biased against certain play styles and would like that bias to be rectified to allow for all play styles.

When ARX were introduced as earn-able ingame, FDEVs statement was that they would be earn-able simply by playing the game, this is clearly not the case for my play-style, and also clearly not the case for the play-style of others. I play at least 20 hours a week or more so time is not an issue. I have supported this game since launch buying many ship kits etc all playing the way I do now, doing what seems of interest to me when I log in. Except now, from the way ARX are earned, playing that way is not enough?

UMMMM. So what am I missing here? Free isn't free?
Next up is a thread. Open should get more free.
We've already had that thread, and it still isn't true...

No need to stir that up again, is there? 🤷‍♂️

So went out, mined 600 tons of LTD's. 14 jumps one way to mine, 9 to the sell point, 7 back to my home stations honking each system as I went for a total of 19 ARX.

I guess your mining ship is equipped with a DSS and a fuel scoop, and that you are in the bubble? I'm also assuming you are not equipped for lots of combat in a RES and that you deliberately choose a quiet area to mine.

Try this as a test: Filter the galaxy map to only Agricultural economies in a region you haven't been to before and map all the earth-likes and terraformables you can find. Do it for an hour or so, then sell that data & check your ARX balance.

It's not earning the ARX doing the activity you want to do, but it is something you can do without modifying your loadout :)

Really, I thought the concept of Arx was to force every player into a life long addiction to P2W games and an overwhelming compulsion to purchase digital commodities that don't actually do anything?
Actually the point is to force us into buying more copies of the game, so we can farm those 30 cents more efficiently using multicrew. The end goal is to encourage you into buying second and third computers for it. Let's say a Raspberry pi.
The circle closes.
Braben always wins.

I think you are over-thinking it.

Mining is a way to get pots of space cash so there's your payoff and incentive for doing it. If mining is all you ever do then you get a huge stash of space-cash but quickly have nothing to spend it on and a relatively small amount of free ARX.

Branch out a bit, min-maxing has always been a false economy approach for fun its also that way for freebie space-ship dressup tokens. Its also much more fun to have a bit of variety.

If I did that much mining I'd expect more than 19 ARX just for the pirates I killed whilst doing it.

Dont think I am new to this game, which if you had read my OP you would see.

All of my ships are combat outfitted for PVE pirates except my exploration ships. I am elite in exploration (since before the Dec 2018 updates) and have over 1 million lightyears logged. I am trade Elite (also before the mining changes) and am almost combat elite through missions, res zones, and CZ's. I have put my time into this game.

The original post was about how you get more ARX for trading in engineer mats than for playing the game. So when mining and exploration give next to nothing for the time spent, and even combat gives small amounts, why does trading a grinding currency give more on return?

Presumably because we are only seeing the first balancing pass. It's in FDev's interests to get the whole ARX thing to be successful in whatever way they measure it, imo just leave them to it. And if you want to farm ARX you know how.

Min-maxing is never fun, I view free ARX (like credits) as a positive side effect.

I had huge fun in my first year of playing, getting to triple Elite within a year of buying the game. It's just a different way to play :)

I try to play the whole game.
