General / Off-Topic Dear Frontier, a request.

From someone who has been in a Music Rhythm game community for the past 12 or so years, I can't help but think a music game would benefit from all the wonderful music that has been made for Planet Coaster, as well as other frontier games. I really love the thought of a music game with The Cube, or Rocktopus, and Konami have done so many music games over the years (17 or so) so I can't help but request something similar to either beatmaniaIIDX, pop'n music, or Sound Voltex, I would say DanceDanceRevolution but no one really likes that game anymore :3

Everybody loves music, and I'd really love something a long the lines of "Planet Music" with songs not just from Planet Coaster, but you could have your Elite Dangerous remixes, the Planet Coaster songs, Planet Coaster remixes, and even some new original music (and maybe licenses? or not, I think frontier make good enough music that they wouldn't need licensed music)

What do you guys think?

I LOVED Dance Dance Revolution. Until the ceiling below us fell off.
Turns out you can't jump up and down on 100 year old wood floors.

DanceDanceRevolution use to be good, a good mixture of dancemania licenses and good konami originals, but now its full of anime music and j-pop, and the artist "tag" and most of his music sounds the same. Something similar to sound voltex would be amazing.

But Frontier would have to make their own controller. Same with beatmaniaIIDX really, but DJMAX was very similar to beatmania and they had a layout for PC keyboards.

Dance Dance Revolution is trying to get its popularity back, the latest version (DDR Ace) is out in the States now and I played the same version while I was in Tokyo and it's amazing! It even has some licensed English mainstream songs now!

I second this request - I make custom DDR stepfiles and it would be fun doing some Planet Coaster son

Iunno, I have a completely different opinion as I'm an older player, I think the majority of stepcharts post DDR X suck :p

Anyway, yea... a music game, I was actually going to try and develop one a while back with some friends that can code, and would totally be 100% fine giving my concept idea to frontier haha, though its basically a pop'n music ripoff but I'm sure they would do something with it, I have friends that make music~ and one of them recently sent a CV to frontier for audio related things, which I really hope he gets :D

That's awesome!

I'm actually an older player too, started joining the DDR bandwagon around the 3rdMIX era (SSR Master Race? [haha]) and I pride myself in playing in flat mode and no speed mods and I think just playing the game is fun enough without having to AAA everything. And freestyling in doubles mode is something I still like to do occasionally.

I agree that DDR X is bad but I think quality has gone up post-X2, and I also miss the European/Dancemania music that they used to have. Since Naoki has left Konami in 2013, things have changed quite a bit. Though I'm still salty at Konami for forgetting that Canada exists and fails to give us DDR Ace like the USA.

Going back on topic, I don't think you need to actually "program" a game from scratch. If you've heard of StepMania you can pretty much mod it to accommodate any type of rhythm game you wish. Licensing Planet Coaster music to use for the game might be a completely different story though.

Oh same, I never use speed mods :D and play with the default arrows ;0

SM is fine if people wanna learn about lua and other useful bits, but not for a brand new rhythm game, I know a certain person wants to change SM as many ways possible and make a profit off it with his new possibly stolen dance pad idea ;0 but I think SM should just be used for DDR simulation and also possible beatmania simulation~

I do wonder if there are any remixes of Planet Coaster music out there at the moment (semi related)
