Dear Mr Braben - I will spend $100 more if you add a functional external view.

I have a lifetime pass. I want to spend more money but right now there is no reason to.

This is hereby my promise that if there is a decent external view system put into place I will spend $100 of my cash in your store on paint jobs etc.

Will any of you also pledge?

I've only purchased a couple mainly because it is useless. I can't admire my ship in action in any way in different environments without a well known tedious debug camera. All of the best sims out there since the dawn of time have allowed for it and it is clearly missing from the game.

There has been many posts asking for it. Many more than people against it. There has been a dev who's stated they'd like to rip out the debug camera and put something real in.

Those of us with lifetime passes don't need to spend any more money going forward and I have no inclination to for cosmetic reasons if I have no means to enjoy them. If you removed that barrier I'd be happy to spend more.

Please make it your priority by the end of the year.

1) An orbit camera as most games have where you use the number pad to orbit around your ships. Even track IR can be used for this (Like in Arma 3)
2) A landing camera you can toggle only when you are using a docking computer. (From the tower to your ship)
3) External Station view of your ship.
4) View of your SRV from your landed ship.

I'll be happy with just those.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

IF ANYONE ELSE would like to pledge an amount - please do in this thread!

I'd agree to those 4 you mention. I'd like to see something along the lines of a CCTV camera that we could view from in-cockpit for an aft POV of the ship. As long as it's not a functional 3rd person view, I'm okay with it.

The main thing that the Devs have against it seem to be they don't want you to use it in a fight... So why not disable external views if weapons are deployed, make a it so you can keybind a toggle function that swaps you between camera control and ship control. Now you can film the ship doing anything but fighting and still fly it.

How would you use it during a fight? your controls switch from ship to camera. I'd love for someone to use it in a fight. While they fly off in a straight line and not return any fire or sit still I can just shoot their face off risk-free.

You wouldn't.

But then again try flying DCS and using external cameras. You risk crashing but also it is extremely fun and it is the preeminent simulation out there.

Personally, I'd get a friend to video me.

I don't have any friends... none that are as geeky as me and play this sort of game and generally I hate people. Its a solo experience for me and I enjoy looking at views. They went thru great lengths to make beauty and then shut us down from viewing it.

Curiously, that limitation hasn't prevent people from paying to have their cars painted for the past... oh, 80+ years.

For the sake of realism: we really should be able to use an external camera in-fight.

But I'm OK with just the vanity camera.

I'd prefer something with an in-game explanation (i.e. a camera drone) rather than a 'magic' external view, but I'd be all in favour of that.

Well. In addition to the fact that people see the outside of their car every day because they can get out of it.
In addition to the fact that other human beings are everywhere admiring the paint job.
In addition to the fact that we had to paint it *something* (and the percentage of people who would pay extra for a paint job seems to be low)
We've had cameras for like a bagillion years. So you can get out and film your car, setup a static camera and film your car, setup a robotic camera and film your car, put a camera on a stick and film your car, have a buddy hold a camera and film your car, have someone pilot a drone and film your car. Indeed: since there are drones that automatically follow people: they should work with cars up to some speed.

All I ask is that the debug cam we already have be easier to manipulate. Basically if we could turn the camera around our ship like we can in various car games, that would be neat.

But third person gameplay is not going to happen. Third person would be nice for when we could control our character so we could enjoy our design, but following the game's logic I think everything will always be first person.

The game knows when the ship is in danger, if there is any perceived combat advantage I'd accept a flyby camera operable only when the ship isn't in danger.

Wouldn't pay for it though.

You mean like sound in space?

OK.

The computer projects a simulation of your ship and its surroundings, using data from its sensors (you know, the same ones that know to make sound?) and feeds it to you with some sort of Head Mounted Display.

We've already established you have 100% of the data needed. If you've ever targeted a ship in contacts you can get a hologram of what it is and what its bearing is relative to you; and its position is displayed on the radar. It even knows when ships are shooting, what they have shot, and whether they hit (because it pipes in sounds to the pilot reflecting these things). So there is zero in-game reason a computer could not make a simulation of the "reality" around it.
