Death should = Credits only

This is exactly the kind of specious nonsense that has ruined this game.

Risk aversion because of death penalties et. all makes the game boring as hell and enables griefing. It sounds like a good idea, but in practice it's a crap way to build a game. ED being the case in point.

If you are hacked off with ED OP it's the endless grind and lack of engaging content that is doing it, not a lack of needles cruelty in game mechanics.

Maybe someone should start an Iron Man Group.

There really really really really should be an IronMan mode... How difficult would that be to implement? God dam FD's incompetence .

Maybe someone should start an Iron Man Group.

Cute idea, but it always boils down to an honor system.

What would be nice would be to set up groups with optional conditions attached that could be ticked by the group creator to apply to everyone. For example:

Exclusive CMDR - Joining Commanders must be new (ie clear save). Joining Open or other groups will effectively "lock" them from this group.

Iron Man Mode - Dying for any reason blocks you from joining this group again (can be overridden by whoever runs it).

Insurance Limits - Dying doesn't get you kicked, but insurance screen has certain limitations (Sidewinder Only, or Stock Only model of your destroyed ship).

Ejection Seat Limits - Hey, I can't help with the self promotion, but some might like to have it that ejecting isn't an auto-rescue. Depending on your location and circumstances, you may or may not survive to the insurance screen (not surviving gets you kicked from group).

The game is and will always be what a player makes of it.
I am pretty much on the side of protecting new players so they have time to learn and I don't want that on a timer. They just gradually evolve to the point where they feel comfortable enough to challenge themselves. New player support is probably the single most important factor if this game's player base is to continue to grow.
It's not something that should be forgotten.
The Iron Man thing I'm not against as long as it is a choice and not forced. It's something I'd probably look at once I beat the game by triple Elite. Kinda like playing the game at "Very Hard"...it isn't something I would consider until I thought I'd mastered the game. That's just my opinion though.
I know some will get off on such things and all power to them.

It would be interesting if the reduced rebuy cost from insurance started tapering off as your net worth increased. Or something like that.
Don't expect your suggestion (100% rebuy cost) to ever happen. This is just too radical, I don't think FD would even consider it. I do agree that death (especially death caused by you going on a murderous rampage and then being taken down by a group of commanders) should have more consequences.

Could be an Idea as a new game mode. Kind of like a modified Ironman mode that has been requested. I honestly this this kind of variation would be good for the game and those who prefer that level of realism...or pain :) I guess it depends on how you think about it.
