Decontamination question

I am carrying a size 1 decontamination limpet on my Thargoid Scout killer. Occasionally when I select it the limpet controller is red and refuses to fire a limpet. I have plenty of power and limpets. I can't see any pattern to it. It even occurs if I haven't used a limpet during the session. Any ideas?

Make sure you have nothing targeted (assuming you're trying to use it on yourself and not someone else). You can't use one while you've got a scout targeted, for instance.

If also if you expect to deploy a limpet please make sure that your cargo bay hatch is open.

Having the hatch open to deploy a limpet is not a requirement, it doesn't even need to be powered.
