Defending The Gnosis is the best thing Ever!

I have been waiting so long for content that gives us a purpose, Now we have it. It may seem a small thing, but this opens big windows! like asteroid battles, defending starports even possibly surface battles. that little bit of atmosphere goes a really long way into making Elite feel real.

sure we are killing scouts now, but what stops it from being pirates and other threats also?

sadly the Scouts do not continue to pour in :( (in solo anyway), wouldn't mind a continuous CZ style survival scenario.

One thing is for sure, this patch has given me purpose and may be just as awesome (even slightly more) than the update itself! great work FDev!

I guess so, now it's not killing you for the privelidge ;)

Oh, I heard about that. I joined a little late and missed that. you didn't suffer from that did you? :(

When I heard the centre of the sector was also locked in the update prior to the hype, I figured something is wrong, the left hand not knowing what the right is doing at FD maybe, not a rude observation in anyway btw.

At that point I decided not to go.

Undocked in my Asp yesterday. It is not built for combat (125 shields, lightweight armour, 2 x Med beams with Lightweight 5).

The Octagon Jellyfish seem to spawn at a rate consistant with the number of commanders around. There were two of us at first, four later (Canonn private group). I did trade fire a bit, but could do nothing even to the scounts. However I was fast and manouverable enough to keep in the fight myself, as long as used the Gnosis for cover and kept no more than two of them on me at once.

I went back to my nearest 'home' base at Spinward Marches Hydroponics' New Beaumont Dock, half way out to the California Nebula and jumped into the Krait I have stationed there...

It was 24 jumps out. It was going to be 64 jumps back. Currently still there in a 'Can I be bothered?' debate.

If a CG pops up to help the Gnosis it may very well provide the impetus for me to change the set up of that Krait a bit from one of being a pure single system patrol militia craft to a combat/explorer hybrid.

This morning i started up in the Mobius group, undocked from the Gnosis, and saw no Commanders, but had 7 Marauders and a Regenerator zooming around me and the Gnosis. Killed them all! :D
Then i went to check one of the Barnacle Forests in planet 2A. Pretty cool, never been in one before. Wanted to bring a few meta-alloys to the Gnosis, but then i remebered that I had no cargo racks... Silly me, one less HRP wouldnt made much difference, I should have brought at least some cargo space...

But anyway, it's Fun! I hope we get more content like this in the future!

*** Combat Log: Victor Flight: 228th Federal Marine Expeditionary Force - 12 th Fleet Federal Navy/ Location- Kanga Bara ***

New Orders came in today we are too pull out from our current operation of supporting a local Federal Faction and prepare to head out on a rescue and combat support mission, looks like some scientists have poked a stick in a hornets nest and FleetCom wants the unit flying shotgun on the rescue efforts.
The Admiral is heading out with a small combat wing to liaise with a number of Independent Pilots who are defending The Gnosis and organise a decent defensive formation till the rest of the Fleet gets there. Tonight I am getting Victor Squadron ready to move, Logistics are going to have a fit since most of the units AX weaponry was placed into storage after we rotated out of Theatre on Op Gorgon and back to normal patrol duties of Federal Systems, Can’t wait to fill out forms in triplicate for kit and arguing with the QM staff on what is deemed as operational requirements.

News hasn’t gone down well with the fleet on a whole, heading back to face Giods after some of the losses occurred on the last tour to rescue Civilians that ignored warnings from FleetCom means sentiments are pretty much indifferent or in a few cases hostile, I have my team leaders keeping a lid on it and distracting them with as much work and prep before we ship out so it shouldn’t be a issue until we are in transit and they have a spare minute to think about it. So far we had no word if the Empire is sending it’s QRF out to the Gnosis, apparently it’s the 8th Legion and they have been very effective in joint operations against the Thargiods from intel from Federal intelligence, all I know is more ships shooting Giods means more chances my guys come home intact.

Flight Cmdr, Victor Flight signing off

Hey Jaylem, sorry if I have said this to you before, but by having a player minor faction, (your own or a group of friends) I have had this purpose for 2 and a half years now.
That is why I did not get on the Gnosis, I had wars to win to keep my moon base city.
Anyway, have a great time and if after 4 weeks you would like a purpose again, think about it as it is the only reason I am still playing.
The 12th Fleet post above look like a cool group for example.

Are other folks seeing 'phantom' thargoids? targets that are marked in the HUD, and on the contact list, but don't exist when you approach them?

Seem to be on the edge of the Gnosis' NFZ?

There were a good number of us on there shooting them up, but the phantom targets were really getting in the way...

You get Phantoms when the instance gets too busy with live commanders - probably the reason we haven't seen"live" attacks on stations before. I suspect the phantoms are "real" to some of the other commanders there and the ones "real" to you are in turn phantom to them. Instancing has never been that great in ED - most likely thanks to the p2p model, so I think this sort of thing will always be a bit "ropey".

Do ever you see the same effect with regular ships in busy CZ's .. or does it just never get that busy to cause phantoms? (Would love to think it's a kind of Thargoid specific effect, messing with your scanners).

I've been on Gnosis a number of weeks. Not a Thargoid hunter .. but not a shieldless explorer either. Kind of a guide, I've loved the last 36 hours. Right on Cmdrs.

I experienced those phantoms a couple of hours ago. It was just me and another Cmdr defending the Gnosis at that time. Weird bug...

I noticed that near the target when i selected it, there was always a wrecked carcass of a scout floating nearby. So it looked like the phantom target was a recentely killed scout, that the game engine wasnt able to delete it from memory or something.

I do believe you might of said this a long while ago, but I have forgotten so thankyou! :), it does sound interesting! :) what exactly do player factions do?

Hey Jaylem. Player factions for me mean that I have a home and something to fight for, so a purpose like you said at the start of this thread.
It stops me being a murder hobo. It lets me expand my own faction to other systems which i really love as i love “empire expanding” games like total war.
Just finished “The battle of Taylor Market” last night with my friends as we fought off another faction who were trying to take over our newly gained planetary city in one of our systems. Epic sorties up into orbit to the combat zones right above the planet, fighting to keep our illgotten gains.
If that sounds like you then sign up for your own faction here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/440462-New-Player-Minor-Faction-System

Anyway, like you said, I need to have a purpose to make this feel like a living and breathing universe and while waiting for the next “ Gnosis” might take a while you can always have this too if you want.

My group https://inara.cz/wing/793/

Our history https://inara.cz/wing-documents/793/131/

Our assets https://inara.cz/wing-faction-detail/793/32955/

Anyway, lots of information here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/240-The-BGS

If you want to go it alone the choose a system with a low population on the edge of the bubble that does not have much traffic.
Hope this helps!

It's a blast until one of your shots misses the thargoid and hits the gnosis itself. I'm back in the california detention center now. I submitted a ticket to get back and I'll see if they put me back or not...

Yupp I'm now in this position..... dogfighting a scout close to the gnosis, stray plasma shot hits the ship...... and the gnosis responds by shooting me down
Damn ungrateful people....

Oh well 1000 ly to return to the bubble, or 1100 back to the gnosis.......
