Delete Chaff from the game (and make gimballed weapon weaker)

I like the idea to remove chaff from the game. It doesn't require any skill to use and fighting it is more boring than exciting. Wait until it stops. Not necessarily my idea of fun. Unless you use fixed weapons but than you don't need to care about it anyway. It would unbalance PvP though. ROFL.

I always unlock my gimballed weapons and use them as fixed when an opponent activates chaff. It works like a charm.
I think that is a really cool option you have with gimballed weapons and it adds variation to combat.
For me it also acts as an incentive to slowly improve my aim with fixed weapons.

Unless we are going to get convergence on fixed weapons then no change should be made to gimbeled weapons. Chaff is an annoyance but can easily be defeats. Maybe do something about what seems to be unlimited chaff and super fast reload that NPC seem to have, especially NPC SLFs (I said seem, it just seems that way). Even so, they are easily defeated with gimbeled weapons. Fixed weapons are useless (to me, someone who has a lot of experience with fixed weapons in other flying games) unless they are center mounted. JMO of course.

Seriously, can we get away from all the "I want it all, I want it now" and make suggestions that can improve the game for "everyone"!

I wasn't entirely serious, don't make any valid points against it. I obviously thought about unlocking, I also play the game since 2014... ;)

PS
But since we are talking about it:
I think it would be better if the game would allow us to set gimballs to fixed behaviour for these occasions.

I think you might like the Chieftain.

I am very bad at detecting irony or sarcasm or humour on forums.

Yes a switch to activate fixed behavior would be cool.

When a large ship with multiple turret weapons starts unloading on you you will wish you had it.

If you don't want to use it then that is your choice but requesting the everyone lose this defensive weapons is selfish, IMO!

I also thought about this, doesn't matter. Valid points never stop people from arguing on the internet.

I can get on-board with this suggestion, but again we need convergence!

That is not true. I use gimballed weapons for the most part. I use them to take better advantage of a ship's agility. But that isn't the issue with your statement. When I was flying PvP patrols, I developed my skill at 'Deselecting' my chaffing target, and used my gimballed laser weapons as fixed, especially against larger targets. A projectile weapon's need to conserve ammo has me not use these on deselected targets. This tactic works wonders on my current PvE prey as well.

Chaff does require skill, just not as much as some other aspects of the game. Conserving chaff, and applying it to it's best effect entails about as much skill as a Heat Sink and/or an SCB.

I just wish NPCs wouldn't spam it so much, as it only delays the inevitable for them. Even then, it's only irritating when you're in a one of the big three and can't really use fixed to much effect. Or any ship with crap weapon convergence.

It's still an important tool and should stay in the game, for sure.

I just give up.

Absolutely. I even think correct convergence should be applied automatically. Some people think we should set it ourselves and I can see how it would be a nice skill check but it would also be pretty useless to most (of the unskilled and unwashed).

Exactly, if you spam chaff every time it is done reloading in a CZ you will be out of ammo when you desperately need it. Most smaller ships in a CZ are carrying Rails so chaff has no effect but when you get into it with a larger ship like a Cutter of Corvette carrying turret weapons you will need that chaff.

1. Emissive Munitions is particle based (Edit: hah I'm slow... LIGHT PARTICLES SILLY!!!...) and it's a munition aka ammo. <<< I think I have a point here, but i'm very tired... zzzZZZzzzZZZ...

Easily forgiven. Particle-Wave Duality is its own special creature.

2. Why would you need it to be an experimental effect if it's a natural effect... and why isn't it on all the laser weapons? <<< this is more of a question really.

Let's say it takes 10 Rads (Grey) of Radiation to produce a laser for normal operations. This is enough to emit the laser "beam" (pulse or burst).

This isn't enough to irradiate a target emissively. So an Emissive laser might require 140 Rads (Grey) of radiation to both emit the laser itself as well as energize the target. Hence, it's an experimental effect.

Yes, Rails have that to a degree. We still have distance data on a chaff spamming target so convergence would not be effected as it is specifically distance related.

And to those who would say this would "unbalance" things, hitting with fixed weapons is hard. Staying "saddled up" and keeping the weapons on target is hard so even with convergence fixed weapons takes a certain amount of skill to master.

The big three have fantastic convergence, with the exception of the nacelles on the cutter and meds on the corvette. That being said, I personally find long-term pve combat with fixed to be a little tedious, but fixed is definitely viable in the big boys

Why remove a mechanic that makes combat with gimballed weapons more interesting/challenging? That I don't get.

As an attacker I actually enjoy the challenge when the enemies use chaff. Else it would just be "keep enemy on screen and press button"

Hmm... okay, maybe call it Radiant Emission?!? or something instead of Emissive Munitions and give it a different description (<If needed), minor detail I know but... to me it would feel more... logical. (even though i'm obviously slow)

And I think the original experimental effect and your chaff idea should be accumulative for both Multi Cannon and Pulse Laser, I feel like it would make it a bit more skill based form of gameplay instead of a simple hard counter.

I used to be annoyed w/ chaff until I changed over to a mix of rails and MC's.

Chaff deployment has me sniping you w/ 4 rails. Two separate triggers help this along and if there is a pause in chaff, I find that if I put my rail aim dots on target, the MC's are targeted nicely as well for double shots.

No problem.
