Newcomer / Intro Delivery mission to planet

I got a mission today which involved taking beer to a planet. I successfully got to said planet, followed the radar to where the base was meant to be, and... no base. I was able to land, but couldn't find where I was meant to deliver the beer.

I'm obviously missing something. Can anyone explain to me how to do one of these planetary delivery missions?

So you went down to the planet and the base was missing? Can you tell us which one it is? How far away did the nav panel say the base was?

One idea - was the target circle dotted? (Meaning it's on the other side of the planet)

Ok, that confirms I should have been able to see the base.

Good question re other side of the planet. Also, I didn't realize there was a distance to base indicator. I will try again just doing a landing at a base and see if I can sort it out.

Bases show in the HUD and Nav Panel, so you should always be able to see them (once revealed by a surface scan of the planet). They do the same as space stations in that you can request docking once within 7.5 km.

Beware of the falling skimmer bug wen approaching a surface base otherwise you could die. If you get hit by one then it will be seen as aggressive and the cops and the station will attack. You will not last long.

Skimmers should spawn on the ground but at the moment they spawn at altitude (a few km up) and then drop down to the ground. If you are in the way and hit one then the above happens. Approach low and slow. I stop just outside the base a wait until I either see them drop down or see them on the ground. Do some research on skimmer bug if you need more info...

Hundreds of landings, seen many dropping skimmers, yet to be hit myself. Almost feels like I'm missing out ;)

I got nailed a few days ago. 28 million buy back. Killed my copilot (Dangerous) that I hired as a Harmless. Toasted several missions I was going to hand in. Resulted in a bounty against me. I contacted FD and they fixed me up and brought my copilot back from the dead. For an out of control lawn mower, those skimmers can cause a lot of trouble.

Anyway, fun as these OT posts are: let's hope the OP gets back with reports of their landing issues (intrigued to find out what the problem was) ;)
