My only problem with this DDFM is that.. just because someone can afford to pledge more ££ doesn't mean their ideas are necessarily going to be better than someone who can't afford to pledge as much!

Example, some people with less money to spare can still come up with some very good, even better ideas..

It's not about how much money a person can afford to pledge, it's more about how good their ideas are that really count!

I really do hope that the DDF members know something about what makes a great game "great!" And not fill it full of "fanboy" type stuff... ;)

I mean, i know a few things about games after playing them for over 25 years but... i can't spare £300 atm sorry. :p

Agreed, and I doubt that FD will let this happen. The way I look at it is that I just paid a little extra to be nearer the front at a debate, maybe the people on the stage can here me better, or maybe I can pass a message up from the back? Probably all I really paid for was and extra tag on my forum badge! But, it will make me feel better...

I am sure that if there a thousand threads asking for a particular 'thing' then FD will listen to that above anything a set of old fuddie-duddies say in the DDF anyway!

Being an '80s Elite player (BBC and ArcElite) myself I still didn't go above the 150,- mark. As much though as I'd have liked to actually have a say in the further development of this game :)

I must say that I think it's a good thing that the fans (especially those who shelved out big money) have the opportunity to give some input on the game. Since this wont be an MMO I'm not affraid that there will be 'misuse' of the godlike powers.

I'll be in the DDF and I bought Elite on BBC cassette the day it came out, played Frontier on the Amiga and can't wait to play ED :)

I played the Spectrum version for years - completely bypassing all the sequels and I'm still playing Oolite now.

I'm on the DDF and am positive it'll be a great and positive experience for all the members and to the benefit of all the players.

There are a number of us, myself included, who will be regularly feeding information both ways. If you have a good idea I will happily raise it in the design forum and give credit where it's due. (I might be a pirate but I ain't stealing no ones thunder :))

Someone on the KS blog posted this definition of DDF = Ability to see and direct the Matrix. ;)

I played Elite II Frontier way back when on a PC (Intel 80386) and this has been an exciting 60 days. I'm glad the KS was successful and that we got this project funded. As I've stated elsewhere, our DDF member roles will probably be defined in greater detail as we move along, but I can see us as being middlemen between the regular players and FD. We have access to privileged information, but with that also comes a certain level of responsibility. It's safe to say that those who have played some of the originals when they came out are adults by now, so I don't expect too much abuse and even if there should be a problem, FD will have means to quickly deal with rogues. ;)

Look at this another way, the 800 odd DDF members are not going to want to tolerate 5 or 6 giving us all a *hity reputation if anyone does start exploiting.

I'm sure the rest of us will react pretty strongly very fast. The last thing the rest of us would want is to find we all got the DDF made redundant because of a few bad eggs. The self policing will be potent I think.

Hi Liqua,

I'm in the DDF, I played all the Elite games from Elite (C64) to Frontier First Encounters (Amiga) back in the day.

I'm of the same view as yourself that the design forum should be used as a mechanism for raising awareness of those elements that are being looked at/discussed, back to other backers in the forums.

I'm happy to have paid to be a part of the design of what is a hugely immersive game, and that opportunity may not come around again.

No-one should be left behind

Tom

Hi K_B. I also went ahead and threw in the cash for the DDF.

Now just for reference, where do you get the figure of 800 members from? It currently stands at 370 on Kickstarter. I have been away for quite some time and skipped a lot of interesting stuff discussed here - have I missed something?

are you counting all the "below tiers" as well?

edit: lol liqua beat me to it :)

DDF Pledger here and also first played Elite on the Acorn Electron and Atari 1040STe and for me the DDF forum is for FD to air their design decisions and ask for consensus. It's their decision that's final in the end but if necessary I will help when needed. More than happy to ooh and aah at the pretty pictures!

Damn it, I jump to £300 because it is too good to pass up. I can afford it. :D

This would be my first time to have an expensive pledge in kickstarter.

Just a guess. But remember that everyone above the £300 tier ALSO get access to the DDF.

For example I reckon the 200 people who have a space station named after them and attending the launch party will have a bucket load to say on the DDF.

Indeed, including the person naming the Founder's System, eh, Liqua? :D
