Destroy X number of ships from Y group - how do you keep track?

I did my first 'go destroy a certain number of ships from this particular group' mission tonight and I got a bit lost. How do you know how far you are through you are? The mission said I should go to a particular location to find the ships, and I did, but I had no idea how many, if any, I had destroyed. I wasn't sure if assists counted or even if I was destroying the right kind of ship.

I saw it said mission target, or something, when I targeted them, but nothing saying something along the lines of '2/8' etc.

So is this how it works, or was I missing something?

If you look in the contracts panel on the left side and open the relevant mission it will tell you exactly how many you have killed.

Check your transactions tab on your left side menu, it will display any active missions. Select the mission in question and it should tell you your progress.

! haven't done one recently. Assuming it hasn't changed, you can see it by clocking on the mission in your transactions tab. Also. you get the big blue writing, "mission Complete" when you kill the last one.

I haven't run one of these missions since 2.1 but previously if you look at the mission details in your Transactions tab on the left hand side, you should see a '2/8' or similar counter. Once you have killed the requisite number of ships, you should get a bit blue "Mission Updated" message across the front of your HUD.

Left panel, open contract, it tells you how many you killed

on top of all the similar answers above, i should add once you select the mission on the transactions tab, the counter is at the bottom offscreen and you need to scroll down to see it.

That would be the key then, I looked at the panel multiple times, but I never scrolled it down! That, or I just hadn't destroyed any, but I know for certain I destroyed one all by myself because I dragged him away from his friends before destroying him.

Re scrolling down, I had the abort/open galaxy map buttons at the bottom, which I thought sat on the bottom of the screen/mission and there was nothing else below it?
