destroyed for 400 cr fine ... rubbish

Happily shooting baddies in a res zone, surrounded by cops, no worries, in solo mode.

A load of cops shooting a ship up, I join in, just before it explodes, but just before I have finished scanning
it too. It was wanted obviously. You know the rest. They all turn on me instantly and destroy me. All those bounties gone. For perhaps one
or two seconds of scanning, an hours worth of play wiped out.

Great.

I have supported this game since kickstarter and spent a lot of money on it. On the whole it's a good
game. However, moments like the above make me a) stop playing for some time due to the time wasted
and b) understand why there are some many negative reviews on steam about it.

I am no super pilot, and have been destroyed before, but in much better, fairer gameplay circs and mechanics than the above. The above though
really spoils the game imo. No doubt it will happen again to someone else...

Nothing new here, just shaking my head in annoyance, and playing something else now.

That's why they have the Dangerous after Elite.

Complacency kills. Don't be greedy. Bet you wish you didn't rush to get in on that action. Lol.

don't worry its happened to me lots. Lol

Two words, OP: Fire discipline.

If you accidentally tag a security ship, drop what you're doing immediately and RUN.

Personally, I like the fact that you have to complete a scan before you can open fire, otherwise it would just be a damn free for all. Doing things the correct way requires a bit of skill and a little discipline. And speaking to all the people who write crap reviews on Steam because of small matters such as this ( the small "matter" simply being that the player is required to obey a relatively small ruleset), I say they can go hang if they can't be bothered to learn how to play.

So many threads about this....verifying target prior to pulling the trigger takes discipline.
Everyone has done it, some learn not to do it again.

While the mechanic is clear cut and justified (it's in the rules), it's still a bad mechanic and needs to be changed. I'm not even necessarily talking about the part where you get a bounty (though it should be a fine), I'm talking about all the police deciding you, the player, are suddenly the #1 most wanted for no other reason than that you're the player.

Sorry OP, but this is a false assessment of what happened. Your failure to scan the target put a 400Cr bounty on your head, and nothing more. Then, your failure to get evade the cops is what got your ship destroyed. Notice the phrase "your failure" cropped up twice there.

Did the game open up on the ship before your scan was completed?

No it was you as you readily admit, so why are you whinging? You do 35 in a 30 zone and a copper sees you, you get a ticket, you pinch a 25p newspaper from a shop and get caught you pay the penalty.

So take this on the chin, and LEARN from it.....We have all done it i am sure, Personally i did it like you, pretty miffed, not at the game, but ME as it was my fault. I learnt and have NEVER done it again!

There should be changes to when police decide to engage. Circumstances, reputation and severity need to be calculated in some sort of algorithm that determines if police open fire on you. If I'm allies with the faction, have had tons of dealings with the leadership of the faction and I'm considered an important person in that system, police should be looking the other way for small infractions.

Also, why not have a system in place where if you retract your hardpoints, police can scan and deduct a fine right then and there? A lot of open world games like Skyrim give you an option to pay up and avoid dying. The problem goes even deeper with Elite because the fines are tiny, but your insurance costs and bounty vouchers are very very expensive to lose.

I understand the game is working as intended, but hoping they "intend" something else down the road.

And here I thought this thread was doomed to nonsense. Thank you, have a rep.

OP, you've been playing for a long time, so I think it's fair to assume you know how these mechanics work and what the rules are. You broke those rules. It's not the game at fault.

Pilot error caused the loss of your ship.

I'm not perfect and have also jumped the gun on ocassion. There's consequences to that, as we all know.

The key here is to not get tunnel vision and to stay aware of your surrounding. The very second everything turns red, you should be flying like a bat out of hell to escape. Stow your guns, bee-line out of mass lock, and high wake. Putter around for 7 minutes then jump back. Poof, bounty is now dormant.

It sucks you lost a ship, but these things happen. Stand back up, dust yourself off, and learn from your mistake.

I noticed the phrase 'to get evade the cops'..when trying to be condescending, best not to     -up your smug reply, eh?

So you didn't bother to finish the scan and it's the games fault. You know the rules and you didn't get away with it so suck it up.

Oh, I agree. I think it should be a fine for firing on and wanted if destroyed. The mechanic is unnecessarily unforgiving for sure, but since it is what it is right now, a player has the choice of dealing with the current mechanic to get by or not.
