Destructoid - which I've never heard of, but Google seemed to think I'd be interested - has an article in which a pair of Frontier developers are at pains to refute the accusation - made by, among others, me - that Odyssey is just a First Person Shooter tacked onto the existing Elite.

The gist seems to be 'you'll be doing the same things you always have done, but on foot'. In a game whose raison d'etre is flying spaceships, but hey ho.
I was particularly struck by the sentence:
'Odyssey is a visible new entry point for the long-running game but "not at the expense of the existing player base," according to lead designer Gareth Hughes.'
As a (VR) member of the existing player base who's feeling a bit expended, I'm not entirely convinced by this. Somehow I doubt it amounts to a promise to definitely absolutely bring back VR.
I think the article's a nice bit of spin. But if you're so minded, have a read and see what you think.
