Detailed Surface Scan on atmospheric worlds - worth it?

I've just come back from an extended hiatus, just getting used to the DSS. If I find a terrestrial type or interesting world, is it worth scanning it with the DSS even though I know you can't land there (yet)?

Found a system with two water worlds, scanned them anyway but it didn't seem to add any more info?

More credits when you sell the data... First scanned tag in the system map if you are the first.

Otherwise not really useful for bodies you cannot land on (or mine). Basically the DSS will reveal locations of POI's or identify hotspots in rings.

Hell yeah - if you are exploring for rank (we all do it lol) you WANT to DSS the Big Three: AW's (Ammonia worlds), WW's (Water Worlds) and the gem: ELW's (Earth-like worlds.) Scanning THEM gives you HUGE credits. If you find a terraformable ELW you can expect a HUGE boost to your bank account - assuming you make it back alive. ;)

Now come on. :p
Those do not exist
My bank account begs to disagree.
On the other hand, terraformable HMCs pay well. As should terraformable MRs, if you can find one (they're extremely rare).
Yeah; found a couple terrafomable HMC's but can't recall finding a T/MR. And I've been out for 60,000LY - they are pretty damn rare. :)

No beggars allowed! :p

Those are rookie numbers, you gotta pump up those numbers! ;)

BTW, it's not just how many LY, number of scanned systems is even more important.
Each to their own of course. Actual experience gives confidence - neither bragging nor denigrating another is needed. Please feel free to call me a rookie again - I'm sure it makes you happy.
Those of us who DO explore have no interest in comparing the length of our waste-release appendages. We have actually ACCOMPLISHED our rank.

Unlike you.

Salute, lad. ;)

Chill kid, didn't you notice the smilies? :D

Talking about accomplishing something in this game, when did you get your Elite rank again? And how long did it take you? ;)

Sure did see your smilies; did you see mine? ;) That's because I didn't put any in.
I first got my trader Elite mining opals in a Keelback. I was shocked when my Elite was awarded - I did not think (And I maintain this) that I had done enough to earn the rank. But with access to ShinDez, i flew to Jameson and gladly announced my arrival to the Commanders there.

Two dead players and my own hull shredded later, i realized NOT saying I was new to ShinDez was probably the better idea. Not that my attackers had any actual skill, but it DID tarnish the pleasure of making it to Jameson Memorial.
Being an Open player, I sometimes get fed up with people; the whiners, and the gankers who THINK they're so bad before they meet me... and on a couple of occasions I put my nose to the Black, pushed beyond the bubble and went to find the dark parts of space.

It's PEACEFUL out here. Quiet. No need for guns, no attitude. No wannabes. I explored up the Great Western Arm of the galaxy finding hundreds of interesting places and even some Earth-like Worlds.
I got my Elite on my second deep-space mission beyond the Frontier. I found several ELW's, found strange life, skimmed low over planets that had never been seen. they may not have given points for score, but they were MINE - I found them and flew over them, alone.

I am a writer - in real-life a satirist for local news, and technical writer for trades instructors. I wrote what I FELT at the time - and it had nothing to do with earning money for my Elite explorer rank.
I hope you like it:

I have only - just today in fact - achieved Deadly in Combat; zapping thargoids out here in the Pleiades. I am pleased with the new rank but don't actually care much. The AI Enemy doesn't care, and the rank means NOTHING facing Human players.
I'll be happy with being "Deadly, Elite, Elite" for the rest of my career.
