[dev question] Are there any machinima features for ED?

Hey there,

I have some scripting and editing skills. Would love make a movie (machinima) with in-game captures.

The thing is: Debug Cam is really primitive, controlling wise. And as far as I could tell, It also applies the camera movement to your ship (so when you move the debug camera backwards, your ship decelerates as well).

Are there any other machinima friendly features? Are there any plans to implement related features?

What I'm about to do will be a long series of captures and editing so, hopefully, I won't be relying on debug cam alone.

I thought the debug camera was not attached to ship control.

I agree that the debug cam is incredibly primitive. However, it's probably quite far down the devs list of priorities right now. I really look forward to any changes that they might make, I'm just not holding my breath...

I've bought this up numerous times before, even used examples such as you with Cliffs of Dover or Rise of Flight where you get nice mini-movies, such as what Barfly likes to upload:

Currently we just have the debug camera, no way of saving our adventures to disk to allow us to review later, or to edit a any angle.

As guidebot says, probably not high on the list of priorities. People have done a great job with what we have though.

I highly doubt you'll get much more functionality than the debug camera offers at present. They've stated, several times, that they do not want an option that would allow control of the ship while in camera mode. If that's what you're after, it's not going to happen.

Until/unless they add a more robust feature to make videos, you'll have to rely on 3rd party apps to make them, you just won't be able to do so from outside of the cockpit unless you use the debug camera as well.

For people wanting to take screenshots or look at their own ships we’re also unlocking a debug camera. This allows you take limited control of the camera outside of your ship. This isn’t a gameplay camera and is purely a debug function to allow players to see their ship.

At least thrusting wise, and keyboard based, yes.

Do the following test: Put your ship at maximum thrust, go to Debug Camera, make the camera go backwards (s key). Ship will decelerate.

That's a bug.

Ship controls should be disabled in debug cam.
