Hello, Park Managers!

The first Jurassic World Evolution 2 Dev Diary is now available on our YouTube channel. In this first installment, Game Director Rich Newbold, Executive Producer Adam Woods, and Lead Designer Jim Stimpson share a closer look into the game and its new systems and mechanics. You will get more information and its new locations, deeper management features, and meet the stars of the show - the dinosaurs.

Join the team as they showcase a bigger and more authentic Jurassic World game, and see more never released in-game footage from the game in action.

If you're unable to watch the Dev Diary, or just want the highlights, we've written a quick summary of everything discussed in the video. There are also timestamps that will take you straight to that topic if you want to jump ahead.

We'll be sharing more details on these topics in the coming weeks and months, so make sure to stick around for more Feature Focus articles and Developer Diaries in the future.

Game Modes and Ways to Play
  • Richard Newbold and Adam Woods introduces the game's four game modes:
    • Campaign Mode - Experience an original Jurassic World story set after the events of Fallen Kingdom
    • Challenge Mode - Put your park building skills to the test, managing everything from your park's financials to the chaos caused by your dinosaurs
    • Sandbox Mode - Build a park to your liking, with lots of different options for you to adjust to suit your play style
    • Chaos Theory Mode - Experience pivotal moments from the film franchise as "what-if" scenarios, with each level set across eras and locations from all five films
Locations and biomes
  • Jurassic World Evolution 2 features new locations and biomes. These come with bespoke weather conditions such as sand- and snowstorms. The new biomes take you away from the tropical setting of the first game and opens up a whole new Jurassic World for the Park Managers to explore.

An expanded range of dinosaurs
  • We have expanded the range of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals in the game. You will meet both new and familiar dinosaurs, as well as flying and marine reptiles. Dinosaurs and reptiles have more behaviours and interactions, and you will see them come to life with greater authenticity and realism.
  • Hunting and fighting systems are now more dynamic, and dinosaurs suited for it will attack and hunt in groups.
Scientists
  • Dinosaur creation and research tasks are now handled by a new staff member: The scientist. They will be a part of all aspects of dinosaur creation, from beginning to end. Make sure you treat your scientists well, and don't overwork them! An unhappy scientist could lead to dangerous consequences.
Territory system
  • Dinosaurs will dynamically create territory based on their environmental needs. Their needs and requirements can overlap, which means their territories will also overlap. Some dinosaurs can easily cohabit and are happy to live with others, whereas some will engage in fights and territory disputes if their species are incompatible. Be careful when planning your parks and enclosures to maximise dinosaur comfort and happiness.
Paleobotany
  • There are no more herbivore feeders in Jurassic World Evolution 2, and these have been replaced with Paleobotany. You will have to create bespoke enclosures for your dinosaurs based on the type of food they eat. If several dinosaur territories overlap inside an enclosure you need to make sure to keep all their needs balanced so everyone can thrive and live in peace.
  • Carnivores and piscivores will still require feeders, or they might start to look for food outside the confines of their enclosures.
Guest Interest Groups
  • We have also introduced new Guest Interest Groups that represent the types of guests that can visit your parks. Different guests will want to see different things based on their main interests:
    • General
    • Adventure
    • Nature
    • Luxury
  • How many guests you have of each group can be viewed from the Management screen, letting you see at a glance what each group requires from a well-run park. Tailor your amenities to ensure maximum profit and a five star rating.
Customisation
  • You will also have the opportunity to change the look and feel of Guest Buildings thanks to a new modular building system. You will be able to change the colour palette and the outside features of a building. If you would like to know more about Guest buildings and customisation, you should check out our Feature Focus on the subject.
  • Within the new environments, you have access to a range of scenery items and surface textures you can use to further customise your parks. You can also change the appearance of your dinosaurs, by changing both their colouration and patterns.

So what did you think of our first Dev Diary? How do you like the look of the game and the dinosaurs? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! As mentioned earlier, we'll have more to share in the coming weeks and months, so don't forget to follow us on our social channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Awesome! I loved it!

You know, I’ve always wanted to learn more about the maps in how they work in general. Now it seems there is something I noticed that I’ve always suspected for a long time that I’m gonna try to summarize up of what I saw:

Though not directly or explicitly stated, it appears each map is its own biome set. Meaning, in this particular sense, for every map you go to, you will have a different set of nature terrain tools and objects you can place.
Example: Taiga will have taiga ground looks, plants and rock exclusively, while Desert will have access to desert ground looks, plants and rocks exclusively.

But, the one and only type of plants that can be used for every map are paleobotany plants.

Already, It’s looking good on everything else, and I so want to learn more about the maps’ environments in due time!

I really love this Dev diary a lot and not to mention a lot of returning dinosaurs are going to appear especially torosaurus Pachycephalosaurus and of course dracorex corythosaurus as well and the most beloved dinosaur in the franchise besides brachiosaurus and T-Rex velociraptor. I have to say I am impressed how far Frontier has come since the first game and I have to admit this is going to be my favorite Jurassic Park game of all time. I hope we get to see Acrocanthosaurus and this is kind of a wish thing but Cryolophosaurus is definitely a theropod I would want to see in Evolution 2.😁

I love the fact that the terrain tools are going to be more diverse and scenery items. 10/10 is my rating

Jungle Biom will be Dlc i would bet on it. 60 bucks is not enough for the suitguy. Like ohh ahmm visit 5 deaths again for whatever reason. For only 19,99. hope jens proves me wrong. But no answer is a yes anyways. Lol they would never sell you the 1 game or a sequel would make no sense. Its all planned years ahead if successful of course.

Idk i dont follow a game that will be released in november. When its out its out. Then i wanna see how jungle looks now. All i can see is jwe 1.5 so far.I still buy tho🥲

So, I'm confused - does this mean that the tropical biome isn't present AT ALL?

No word on JP Style park and Classic Skins customisation :(
I wouldn’t say at all, because Chaos Theory mode is said to take place in iconic locations in the Jurassic Park and World films. So, I think there will be something like that already, just don’t know to what extent yet.

As mentioned earlier, we'll have more to share in the coming weeks and months, so don't forget to follow us on our social channels: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

A few questions:

1.) Will dinosaurs react to weather? Example: Will they hunker down in sand or snow storms or seek shelter from them in thick trees or perhaps lay down as a herd/pack for warmth close together?

2.) Is the rotation on the axis we saw for rocks available for any place-able scenery item? It looks like it was brought over from Planet Zoo and its amazing. Thank you! (We saw those lights and tables/chairs and maybe even that JW sign!) How does terrain collision work? Can we lower items into the ground as well as rotate them (Example: We can take a rock and sink it below ground or raise them and combine it with other rocks to make unique formations?)

3.) Hit-boxes and limitations: A follow up to the previous. The hit-boxes for scenery items was extremely restrictive. It seems like based on images and videos that those hit-boxes have been reduced if not eliminated allowing for much more creativity. Can you confirm or clarify, @Jens Erik ?

4.) Are ranger/ACU team members similar to scientists? Can we hire/fire them/train them?

5.) Noticing the fences again....can guests see dinos through fences? If so, maybe they can see them and get some minor boost out of them but get full boosts and happiness from viewing attractions.

6.) For the paleo-vet center: Is the dinosaur being treated going to be visible in the back bay? Maybe sleeping as it "heals" or is "treated?"

Now for observations:

1.) PACK HUNTING! It looks real and feels dynamic. I like how the one raptor jukes and then changes its mind. Can't wait to see the finished sequence! Can Rexes pack hunt? They did in The Lost World (poor Eddie...)

2.) Love the herbivores fighting herbivores/territory system. That's going to make things super interesting in designing paddocks. Question: Was real world paleo-ecology considered when decided which species would or would not get along/compete for resources?

3.) That REX! She's beautiful. Can't wait to see more. She seems to have real mass and weight, her arms look less pronated and did those guests react to her roar? If so, nice!

4.) Love the idea of snowstorms (hope it accumulates on the ground and buildings and makes ranger driving dangerous) and sandstorms. Hoping for thunderstorms with lightning and the classic tornadoes/hurricane.

5.) Loving the paleo-botany stuff the more I see it. Its realistic and it fits the lore and makes planning paddocks much more challenging.

....In conclusion, this looks more and more like the perfect balance of Planet Zoo meets Jurassic World/Jurassic Park and is light years ahead of the sequel. The love being put into the game is clear as is the devs and community managers listening and implementing player feedback.

Thank you!

Beautiful things in that first dev diary , I hope next one will bring some other good stuff like pack hunting , new escaping mechanics and Eaten rangers .. I think I found a deer screaming in the night at 5:23 in the fact dinosaurs are now in continent I think we will have some surprise in this sequel . Actual wild animals ..
