🦘 Developer Journal: Australia Pack 🦘

One thing I worked on for Australia Pack was animating Joeys in Red Kangaroo pouches, which was an awesome challenge! I worked with our super talented programmer Megan (responsible for the fantastic MeggieB code), we worked hard to get the Joey climbing out of pouches and having a few little interactions with their mothers

HOLY MACARONIS! I love you guys, I'm so excited for this!! <3 This pack is gunna blow my mind!!

Holy Moly!!! After reading this, I love this dlc even more and have a more deeper respect to the devs that worked hard on this! They literally made what we thought might not be possible well...possible! So excited to finally get this dlc and play it! Thanks devs for your hard work and dedication to this game!

Since kangaroo joeys hang out in pouches, I think this opens up more thing like baby apes clinging on their mother's backs.

I really hope so! I'm very pleasantly surprised to hear that they managed and even considered including joeys in pouches, - I didn't expect that at all - so I really hope perhaps we'll see some more mother-to-offspring interactions introduced to the animals we already have in the future. Really, just more behaviors in general I think are really needed. Sounds like they've made a good start! :)

Also great to hear that they worked with an indigenous Australian for the artwork. I think that's really important for an authentic feel, and it's always brilliant to support indigenous peoples, as well. Hoping for some authentic Native American artwork in the future. 😉

Begs the question with regards to the koala; the "eucalyptus enrichment"; obviously the koala needs it for food and, as stated, enrichment, but is this the only means by which the koala will behave naturally?

Joeys in pouches?! I didn’t dare to dream of something like that. This looks like the best DLC so far, and I loved them all. I can’t even say what I am looking forward to most - the animals or the incredible new building and decorating pieces... But joeys in pouches... hard impossible to beat that!

Frontier, thanks for all the work and effort - and enthusiasm - everybody put into this pack! But I guess you know that you are rasing the bar for future DLCs tremendously! :)

I think the final result is really sweet, so I hope people enjoy it!

This is awesome! I really didn't expect Frontier to tackle this challenge. This is such an awesome "detail." Can't wait to see some joey's tomorrow! Maybe we'll see some koala joey's clinging to mom's back too?

Joeys in pouches!!! No way! I always wished that young mammals would suckle, and I wasn’t expecting pouch young, so this is a fantastic surprise! Maybe we could have young apes, anteaters, lemurs, etc carried on their mother’s back or belly? Will koala joeys be carried on mum’s back?

Also very excited for the cassowary wattle to move independently, I’m sure it will look hilarious. As an Aussie, I’m curious to see what build pieces we have and how Australia has been represented - the trees look amazing so far and I’m very excited for this pack!

So, quick question- when can we expect the update/pack to drop? Like, what time? Does it just auto-unlock at 12 AM on the 25th, or is it gonna be later in the day?

I wasn't really excited for the DLC before reading this journal, but now I just don't have any words! It sounds absolutely amazing, Frontier! Really can't wait to see how the new animations will work and it seem like it will be the first DLC for Planet Zoo I will buy.

I love the dev journals. They give you an in-depth understanding of the development process that you wouldn't be able to fully figure out otherwise.
