❄ Developer Journal - Europe Pack ❄

This has quite literally been the best rollout of any Planet Zoo Pack yet. I saw you all got a little bit of flak on the livestream video, but that was completely uncalled for. Literally this entire group of CM's has reinvigorated the love into this game that I haven't felt for quite some time, and everything came out flawlessly. The Road Trip idea for North America was amazing, but hot dog the storytelling and fairy-tale elements of this pack was just a hoot! And it's awesome to hear that it will be integrated within the scenery as well (Our group has been planning a bit of a fairytale-themed children's area so you all came in clutch!).

I'm so happy to have seen the CM's take amazing little risks in terms of rolling out this stuff - especially with a cute little hot cocoa recipe which I hear is AMAZING (My boy @Stoppable San made himself along with Thrive, looked FIRE!) Francesca's story, and Eltanin and Tim's little Aardvark shenanigans live on stream.

Even though the fanbase for Planet Zoo really isn't as booming at it once was, it makes me so happy to see the CM's developing such a tight-knit community with the antics of this, and it makes me even more excited to see what the team has for us in the future.

Here's to an amazing drop tomorrow, and thank you all so much for making this the best damn zoo game ever!

There is, of course, an excuse to include the graceful silhouette of the Venetian gondola to complete the postcard depiction of a romantic Italy
So much of this looks amazing and I can’t wait to use it but I still take issue with this. It’s a zoo game and we still lack some of the most basic zoo building pieces. But hey, we have a Venetian gondola 🤷🏼‍♂️

And we are getting Dutch inspired building pieces but the temperate maps have great looming hills in the background making it basically impossible to make something approaching a realistic Dutch zoo. I’m going to have a go on the North America challenge map as that has the least intrusive background but it would be great if there could be a bit more joined up thinking at Frontier and a recognition that some basic features - eg lack of simple maps with less domineering backgrounds, lack of basic zoo building pieces two years into the game - impact the game much more negatively than the lack of a Venetian gondola.

I’ll conclude positively - so much looks great, the animals are probably the best yet and a basic deciduous tree with a tall trunk is something which will really be appreciated.

This journal really speaks to my inner history geek! I love the metaphors you're describing the building styles with, very well thought out. I think this is really the pack that enhances not my zoos directly, but the atmosphere around or for the guests, something I've missed previously. So I can picture myself tomorrow, spending half of my work day peeking into screenshots and videos, and for sure spending my whole evening in the game!

And this is also very well said:

Amen!

Everything is lovely, and I love the bridges and food cars the most.
Can we expand the bridges' length, or are they a fixed length that can't be changed?

Yay, i have to wait until Friday to play. Woo hoo, boo yah (actually, this well will go by super fast, because I have a lot to do. So...

... YES)

Very excited for this. The scenery pieces look amazing and having new set pieces to act as arrival points as well as "wear and tear" applications? Holy cow. Tomorrow isn't near enough.

Great Infos! Will it be possible to start a map without the typical entry building when we have ships and buses?
Really hope we'll finally get this Option. In Case it won't be possible yet, you can at least get a smaller Entrance Building by using a Heightmap

I second everything that has been said around the rollout. This Developer Diary managed to get me even more excited for the DLC tomorrow (errr, later today?) with some of the details around the decals, the screenshots, etc.

The glorious thing about the pack is that, while the new building and scenery pieces are definitley European? The uses they can have above and beyond that are pretty infinite in a lot of cases.

This marks the first time I'm more excited about the scenery pieces than the animals in a pack! (And I'm very excited for the lynx, badger, and deer!)
