Development Update 1 - June

Is as if you never tested it and never noticed the "repeatable pattern". But hey, I know how hard software dev is so. Good luck and keep us updated.

I have now, what, 50 hours in EDO and if it hadn't been for Reddit and these forums I'd never have known about this issue. I have seen bizarre screenshots where it is super obvious, but I can easily see how QA missed it given my own experiences.

Greetings Commanders,
...

We will be looking to share more information on development challenges as well as talking about progress that has been made in other areas. Making games requires a large number of people working closely and in sync. There will always be a need to prioritise and focus development efforts on specific features and content for the biggest benefit of our wider community. Despite an incredible team, we simply wouldn’t ever have enough time to add all the awesome things that are requested by the community. As such, we hope that by being open about these requests, we can avoid giving the wrong expectations and everyone can be informed and up to date with where development is at that time.

Future Progress: The Longer Roadmap

As mentioned in our previous post, our aim was to focus on the initial set of updates and then turn our attention back onto console. There’s no doubt that the additional development work on these updates and community requests pose a challenge on our previous plans and timelines. We are actively investigating, reviewing, and remeasuring the further roadmap but these things will take a little time. We understand that this may not be as much information as people may have wished for, but we hope that the open and transparent nature of this update means that you’ll bear with us while we pull those together. What we can say, is that through these monthly updates, we will be able to share and keep you informed every step of the way.

Thank you for the update, Arthur.

I've been playing Odyssey since release, and I'm optimistic that things will get better. The lines I've marked on your post, however, (and please forgive me if I misunderstood since I'm not a native speaker) indicate that it's the players' fault that things will get delayed because we noticed and pointed out problems with Odyssey.

There seems to be a pattern in release problems: I remember the FSD booster that took 3 releases to fix, as well as the FCs, of course.

Also, when there are changes in the UI, the best thing for FD to do is to pick a number of players, offer them NDAs and ask for their opinion. People not in the payroll, that can say "this is bad" without being afraid of Management.

I don't regret Odyssey being released when it did, since it gave me more time to enjoy it, but things would have been better if the state of the game was mentioned beforehand.

I'm sorry for the sodium and I'll let this be the last I have to say on anything related to this for a while. This development statement, which is pulled from already extant patch notes (in addition to the ones coming tomorrow) plus a summary of the top 5 voted on issues in the tracker, is what they were referring to during every stream for the past month when they said "they were working so hard on something" that they were so excited about and couldn't wait to share with us? I can't believe that this is what Zac seemed so excited about. What happened? No conversation from the developers themselves, no interview about power play. Nothing but just a typical PR release. This is the type of 'Developer Update' content that's supposed to be so important and informative as to justify cutting the number of Supercruise News streams in half? Judging from the streams and the excitement shown it seemed like the team really had something here unfortunately whatever THAT was isn't happening. Why string us along when the scope clearly changed drastically at some point? Even in yesterday's stream I was left thinking that the forum post Arthur was talking about was "in addition to" and not "in place of" the actual developer update which had been billed for a month as either some sort of video/stream project. Were was the clear messaging then? Hidden in a twitter reply that I only saw in another persons forum post? o7 Cmdrs time for less of this and more of something else entirely.

according to David Braben 7 years ago, they should have all the tools and infrastructure already in place so eventually, they can just be placed in. Unless that was .
Staff retention and outsourcing most of their artist work outside frontier I would believe is the issue with this, They fly through employees like CMDR's fly through the neutron highway due to concerning management issues

My take on this is that FDev does not know why performance is so broken and that the game has no real leadership or plan for the future.

I think that the Cobra engine is fundamentally broken and nobody that is left at FDev understands it well enough to fix it.

I think that they are focusing on the console release to try and figure out how far they need to downgrade all of the graphics to get the game to push 30fps on the previous gen consoles. Once they hit that bar they will push the downgrade to the PC version as a "fix".

I also think that in the next 2 - 3 years FDev will be bought out by 10 cent and the planet games will be the only products and will be 100% mobile.

My English is not good, but does this mean that from tomorrow we can be bored to death with an average of 60 FPS for the next few years, with the contentless DLC? Is nothing more coming? Is Elite Dangerous done?
Nah, those are monthly updates that show what developers do for this particular month.
Game has problems now and dev are working to fix them.

On the other hand, having some long time milestone. Vision where the game is going would be cool too

He is saying two things:

1) the players have so many proposals and ideas, no team could ever do all. Basically "the everything-game is fun to daydream about but never will happen." He is correct.

2) they have to invest way more into post-launch fixes than planned. This is undermining their longer term planning. In other words, some of the planned stuff will have to be delayed, simplified or scrapped. They are deciding this in the coming period.

So... higher than G1 mats at geo sites then. Where does that fit in? Perhaps it'll come tomorrow.

And improved tritium yields from asteroids. And fuel directly to carrier tritium depot instead of up to ship first.

:D

So this is what you meant with "you will be very pleased with what you'll see end of this month", Arthur, I'm not pleased at all - it's not enough, but now I know that I will buy a few other games in the steam sale, because EDO isn't worth it and might never be - there is not even a shred of hope for the future in this update - nothing.

You know, you even managed to fail my very low expectation for this update - it contains nothing what would give hope for this game - nothing at all.
