Development Update 1 - June

One question: Will there be further updates until console release or not?
Asked many times, never answered so no.
So, when are we out of alpha?
When (if) it gets released on console in 2022.
PC playerbase are the customers who were sold half a product and are now being told not to expect getting the rest of it
QFT.
do you really think they will be adding atmospheric planets? LOL
Probably not (clouds, gases, weather etc are hard to do).
If frontier said, we’re running another Kickstarter for ship interiors or weather effects etc insert your dreams here…. Would you fund it to allow them to get more developers onboard and accelerate development.
No!

Dear , can I have a refund please? You sold me a product not fit for purpose.

Hearing about those things that is also not really working is pretty discouraging alright - I haven't even really tried those things and god knows what else is broken that I'd probably come across at some point and for how long.

Just on the Elite rank though, I think the issue you might have is that selling to a FC doesn't contribute to rank - too easy to exploit otherwise. Could be the reason for the discrepancy in numbers.
To be fair, I'm enjoying Odyssey, IE: the missions that work, the walking around, seamlessly moving between on-foot, SRV and ship, as an individual.

I'm not doing any grinding to upgrade my suit/weapons as I occasionally find upgraded suits/weapons to buy in the concourses of different places I go (Stations/Planetary Ports). So I now have a level 3 Dominator suit and level 2 of Artemis and Maverick. I've also gotten 2 or 3 upgraded weapons. And I haven't even thought about grinding to engineer them yet.

I'll be more happy if Patch 5 actually includes "working" shared missions and a better multiplayer experience. Traveling together on the same ship is currently problematic at best with "guests" on the ship being lost more often than not when instancing (supercruise, jump, glide). When it works, its awesome, but when it doesn't it s a giant pain and time waster while the "lost" person gets in their ship and catches up, like what happened during yesterday's Supercruise News #39.

But when it works and you can take at least two people in one ship with 2 SRVs in the bay and you're out to hunt down whoever the mission target is, its an absolute boat load of fun.

Powerwhat?
- FDev designers.

On a more serious note, while we were indeed supposed to get some info about that, I wouldn't expect much. It's a 6 years old feature that has been abandoned by most of the player base
Has it? There's been massive activity on the three powers Discords I've been in recently whilst getting the goodies for my newish Epic accounts.

the business world sees your impotent rage and "have to's" and raises you the cable tv/internet industry, airlines, oil companies, walmart, car dealerships, and basically any other company in existence or has existed.
Not sure how that is relevant - those industries are nothing like the gaming industry so I am not sure what your point is?

I was highlighting a specific set of "promises" FDev made - I don't recall EE, British Airways, Shell, Walmart, Ford or similar making such promises to their customer base.

Polite reminder, Keep it civil please.

Thanks.
I understand that you are doing your job, you are probably doing it much better than the guys who sold us garbage in crumpled packaging. I agree that the joke about using children at work was too caustic and could be interpreted by others not quite as a joke or become a reason for unnecessary chatter.
But you could for a second feel and share with us that feeling of disappointment when your friend, whom you loved and was devoted to him for 30 years, dies. This is roughly what a fan feels when he sees it.

I would like the company to which you are so devoted to behave in a civilized and cultural manner, following the rules of this forum, for example.

Hummm don't know how I feel about this post,

After it was announced that it would a Forum post I kinda expected something more in-depth and juicy, I mean it's cool that they are reiterating the gfx and performance issues but there's game design problems withing Odyssey that Frontier should adress, specially since they will most likely be working on them for Odyssey's console release.

Oh well, it's only the first report, hope they keep improving communication and share the process with us. Enough of keeping us in the dark like mushrooms.

Was there some specific reason it was released when it was? We’re they waiting for specific info, or someone to sign off on it, or some such? Genuinely curious, as the wording here implies something like that?
Basically it was just released as soon as it could be. Everyone understands that releasing this kind of post just before close of play is not ideal. Hopefully we'll get some CM input tomorrow.

Putting on my rational pragmatic hat for a moment, it IS something... and any progress is progress and I appreciate they must all be running around like headless chickens right now, but honestly it feels like there will be too little effort available to expand on variety for existing gameplay loops just taking advantage of existing assets (not even needing new stuff like ships, or exploration carriers - which seem to be outright not going to happen), mainly because soo much time and effort is going to be needed to fix what is borked in the new stuff they DID deliver. They put all their eggs in this on foot pew pew basket, and new planetary tech.

I think sadly, future progress in Elite will become like Star Citizen's. Once every major patch I will dutifully download it (e.g. later today, and for SC 3.14), try it a little while, be underwhelmed by progress or playability or framerates and then shelve it and hope that the next update in a few months gets us any closer. I don't hold out much hope for either TBH.

It may be that a new third option will come along and beat them both before they get there.

You call for calmness and civilized communication, but the behavior of your leadership "of course you are not responsible for it" is the behavior of charlatans who evade responsibility for their actions in literally any way possible.
Politeness is great, but being politely sent to hell is not a reason to pay attention to politeness. You were still sent to hell and fed with grass.

You see, all this aggression does not come from some aimless anger against the whole world or something else. This is the energy that accumulates in the vacuum of the cauldron in which we all cook here. Instead of answering our questions, we get silence smeared with viscous slippery excuses. This is precisely the reason for the state in which we are communicating about this topic. Not in our bad upbringing.

I'm very happy with the strides that have been made in making Odyssey playable - it feels like a proper game now with very few crash issues and I'm really enjoying it. The update tomorrow will hopefully address one of the two remaining serious issues the game needs to have fixed, imo - multiplayer missions, so I'm looking forward to that and my friends and I finally being able to all benefit from missions in team play. The only other thing that I'd really, really like to see getting fixed soon is the shipyard not displaying the equipment loaded on ships in storage. Trying to remember which shed ship I left stuff stored is doing my head in..... That aside - good work, guys!

So right now, I can get NMS and Subnautica for a total price equaling what I paid for crappy Odyssey. If I pay slightly more I can get SpaceEngine as well. You live and you learn, even when you grow old. I'm about a Planck length from saying goodbye and thanks for all the fish. I'm not even gonna bother trying to get a refund, and who knows, in a couple of years Odyssey might even work in VR.
Get subnautica - it's really fun to play - I got it and am pretty happy with it.
