Development Update 4 - September

Or they could, y'know, maybe work on some fixes for the Mauve Adders I get every hour or so. Or look into tweaking the PS4 version of the game to unlock a 4K option when it's being run on PS5 (which is not a full PS5 native version but at least a step in the right direction given all other platforms have that option) ... or a thousand other things that aren't actively showing a bias towards one player base over the others.
PC is the priority development and optimisation platform for Elite Dangerous, always has been, always will be.

I got to applaud them on the addition of Fleet carrier Interiors; that's got to be the best possible social space available, because it's about the only place where you are guaranteed a waiting period With multiple players in the same space.

I hope they had an option for a CQC arcade, that would be a fantastic way to spend time while waiting for the fleet carrier to jump.

Please just tell us now that you have no intention of releasing Odyssey on console EVER. You keep saying you want to get Odyssey running properly before releasing to console and I get that and am willing to wait but you're constantly releasing and planning to release new stuff to Odyssey that will inevitably need fixing making our wait wvenlonger. Why can't you just fix what's there then release to console then add new stuff. We've waited long enough and are just ignored constantly and kept in the dark.

First of all, the base must work, then additional things can implement. I can’t remember that is was mentioned in any post or something else, that there Weill social space in carriers or something like that. Props to Fdev that they listen to the EDO COMMUNITY but give the consoles and HRZN community a minor bug fix update which brings more bugs.

I suspect the issue surrounding performance (which is the main issue at the moment) will have zero effect on a new SRV or extra missions.

a little example for you? And don’t forget, we are one community not spliced at all, we on the other hands have for the moment the same CG‘s same lore thing. So why there is such a really big gap between us and the EDO base? Any great publisher who decide to make a game third party, inform all platforms about the next steps, examples? Stellaris? No mans sky? Would you like more?
I don't care about the other games, I don't play them. They have told us the plan, this is what is happening.

Stellaris for example is on consoles anytime a step back, BUT there are updates and new contents coming to the consoles with dev diary’s presented, totally clear and open. So what is the point to ignore a complete community (consoles) give them a little amount of information, a complete underwhelming patch, which caused new bugs? I don’t get it, it’s getting to start really that they aren’t interested at especially the consoles, feels like Mac OS vibes.
It's a different game. Fdev have a whole team dedicated to the consoles. From what I know, they haven't disapeared.

what is the matter to confirm that EDO is Happening perhaps in the middle of next year? Someone told this before, better to get bad news, then to get nothing.
Maybe because they don't know yet. No point in giving a release time if they don't know it.

Sally makes such a great work, she keep many of us calm, but every time when something is delivered, it’s like a hit back. And this today? Hopefully, they will give us some thing in the stream. Because now, it’s start to getting really really disappointing.
Why. You know what the answer is. As soon as they know, we will know. Yes I'm sure its disappointing, but what can they do, apart from concentrating on getting the performance where it needs to be (which they are working on) so it can be ported to consoles. But they need to get that fixed first before they will have a rough estimate on console release.

But while they are optimising, there is literally no reason why they should stop developing that game.

Except those people wouldn't be working on that, as its not their area of expertise.

Again, how do expect 3D artists that create SRVs, or the people that design and create missions do that exactly. Please explain?

You really are not thinking this through are you.
It takes more than just a 3D artist to add a new vehicle into the game. There will any physics related coding changes to make it handle how they want it to (because we know those things are tweaked rather than always calculated for reasons of both balance and computational efficiency) plus how it should accelerate, top speed, weapons targeting, size of inventory, etc, etc. Not to mention the testers ... who, as a result of testing the new SRV, will not be testing other things.

I do get your general point - there are folks with different skills and it is possible that all of the people that could be fixing network connectivity bugs on Horizons are simply not available because they are too busy fixing bugs on Odyssey. My point is more how this looks. Irrespective of how much effort it took or what those folks w/could have been doing instead, announcing additional content built on top of something that already doesn't work properly and already doesn't have a plan for when it will come to consoles is just a slap in the face. And a stupid PR move. Unless of course you don't give a flying monkey for your console market which, frankly, I rather suspect is the case.

Leaving aside my animosity to other issues, its the only way FD can really assess if a console version is even possible until they have at least gone through the motions for PC. My guess is that point of go / no go will be the new year at the earliest.
Someone made a point - could have been this thread or another - that if they really wanted it to work on consoles they should have started there and then scaled UP. A heck of a lot easier than trying to scale down.

Yes, and when stuff is being tested, they can work on other stuff. Its how we all work. I don't send stuff out on proof and sit there for a few days until someone gets back to me, I start working on the next project.

It's not a slap in the face when you use some logic.

Wooooo! more content console is left out of. Seriously guys, if we on console aren't getting odyssey, or it's going to take another year, can you just upgrade your platform transfer system? This way xbox and playstation users can transfer their entire accounts and all their progress to pc, not just assets. It would be nice if we could enjoy the new content too.

They did actually give some information about this in the stream, in that the console builds have to be verified by the console makers before they're granted a license to use the platform. Seen like that you can see why Sony etc wouldn't want Frontier knocking on their door every five minutes, with a new point update looking for accreditation.

They also mentioned again consoles are still slated for development once Odyssey is in the right place and that Arf is a console player himself, so keen to see it too. So while I can see how console users might want Frontier to hold their hands for them, no news can be good news too. Consoles are still slated for release when Odyssey is in the right condition for porting, so it's as you were.
