Development Update 4 - September

Roll a dice (d100), and take the number of months. It's as accurate as they could tell you at the moment
They seem to have free dev capacity, if not essential stuff like emotes and cosmetics compatibility is on the dev stack... Priorities, priorities... before the console guys even get a rough roadmap, the pc guys get silk toiletpaper in the ARX store. Yes, can't fully hold back my frustration.

And please don't tell it won't run properly on basic consoles: MassEffect4:Andromeda looked almost better an ran smooth. So no reason, just an excuse.

Different groups, not every dev CAN work on performance, and the others won't get months off while waiting that.

Yeah, and none of the managers does care about the picture this gives to the console community... All I ask for is some respect for us and even a rough estimation, before everyone has left for other games. Right now, this lack of ANY informations makes the console community starve slowly.

Why is there NO Mention of the console development AT ALL in the dev updates? Is our stuff abandoned? Sorry, we got delayed 3 times and now indefinitely. Great. This is how you make players leave. Without any perspective, you go away. Imagine you work in a company and don't even have a ROUGH perspective for a promotion or cash upgrade to compensate for financial inflation, while all your colleagues do have. Do you stay? Nope....

Again, until they manage to make it run properly on PC there CAN'T be any estimation, because they don't even know if they CAN make it run properly.

With PC is actually the same thing, we don't know (and they don't know) when Odyssey will get the full release (because we are in an early access in disguise)

Artists and coders do different things. Teams do different things.

Its the equivalent of wondering why your car isn't fixed yet because there's CLEARLY two employees standing around and chatting, one of whom is a sales rep and the other is the receptionist.

Round and round... It never gets old!

It doesn't run properly on pc, even the highest spec pc. Only once they've fixed whatever is wrong will it run on last gen consoles.

So no, your rant is wrong - they can't possibly tell console owners WHEN, when they currently can't get it fixed on pc.

So if you have too few coders to make a product available to a new market, what do you do?.... sorry, in car development we don't shift the SOP three times. We increase the manpower to make it work - only a product that can be sold can make money. Naaah.... a delay of over a year would never be accepted in our management - especially if the marketing campaign in the target market has been started. Anyways, we should get some info, at least to keep us interested and make us not run away.

As for the state of the game: In the german forum you can read of many players for who it runs quiete good. So... yeah... I kinda stop believing that it is unplayable on pc. The guys who complain about the state of EDO are a clear minority. The other guys seem to have fun...

This does not work. Adding manpower often SLOWS software development because the new team members need to be brought up to speed by the existing members, and also complicates communications.

More chefs won't make a meal cook faster - it just leads to a "too many cooks in the kitchen" scenario.

Do you want it to take even longer? Because that's how you make it take even longer...

Odyssey does indeed run well enough... usually. But that's the problem, it's only usually. Arrive somewhere, game stalls and stutters for a few minutes, then gets going (with the occasional further stutter). Then, after some amount of playing, frame rates plummet: where I was getting 150-200 fps, I wind up getting 15-20 fps, with the only reliable fix being to restart the game. Doesn't mean I haven't been able to enjoy Odyssey, though. My guess is those Germans are fairly tolerant of those stutters, but Sony and Microsoft would not be at all tolerant of them.
