Diamondback

Nah, don't get me wrong: I like it, and I'm keeping it. (Though that may be Stockholm's.) It's perfect for slower, take-in-the-sights, scan-mostly-everything, be-curious journeys. But that's my exploration style, not everybody else's. (And I tested it for those as well.) :)

I thought your review balanced, accurate, and considered all the angles. I came to all the same conclusions, but unfortunately the Explorer doesn't fit my play style. The Scout is still fun to fly, but it doesn't compare very well to the survival/combat/explorer/trader attributes of the Cobra. Maybe if smuggling becomes a thing again, the DB's will find a place in my fleet.

Yup internal component for rocks :p

leave the limpets and shields at home? Use heatsinks to evade predators, and maybe even A-grade sensors to track pirates a little better. Granted it's not an ideal mining ship. But it works at least as well it does for exploring. Especially since you pretty much have to be right on top of the Explorer to detect it.

leaving the shields sort of defeats it's just out of the bubble bad cat attitude. It doesn't have enough internals to be a master of all trades.

So agreed, what ever you choose to do it will only do 1 of those things.

I went for combat bad boy (out of the bubble) and fuel rat and it "just" does that. I wanted to combine near space mining but couldn't with this ship. But boy, near bubble explorer/gunner it does really well.

AND when the day comes when you can't fly off into the void and shut off all your systems comes.... This will become all the more appealing.

But once again

MY POINT IS - it is fun TO FLY !!

Yeah!!

I have flown both of these DB ships extensively in Open vs CMDRs and vs high level AI. The Scout is fun to fly at first. It has quite a bit of maneuverability, and it has a decent boost (on paper). However, it bleeds speed too quickly and is extra-sensitive to engine pips, so you can't pull off certain combat tricks very easily. Some tricks you just can't do if the enemy knows how to counter them. Even with...

Thanks for this. Learned more about this ship than I have time to experiment with and learn myself as it read like a flight debrief. :)

A bit of hyperbole perhaps. Still, I have had little problem coming to a stop after blasting through a mail slot at ridiculous speed

Ah I see what you mean now. The thrusters can be pretty sensitive for a ship that weighs almost as much as a Cobra. Landing can be a bit jerky as a result even, without an artificial gravity assist. But after doing some experiments tonight, I did figure out how to use the side thrusters to improve FAoff combat turning, and time the turning with the blue phase during boost, so now it can corner better and do that "cobra flip move" from the original game trailer in my DB Scout. So it looks like the thing has a few tricks up its sleeve after all.

I would recommend you do a quick 1 Kylie plot and see if you can live with it for a long haul. Not sure I could.

This is excellent advice. At 1000LY the brain seems to invert a bit and it becomes possible to start hating the things you used to love and loving the things you previously hated about a ship.

so now it can corner better
It's a small thing but I would also like to note the sound it makes when you do a hard turn like that, the metal creaking and groaning on the turn. I think Im a bit addicted to that sound.

All of this said, Im still using my Asp for exploration, I havent changed over to the explorer, I just like the scout for bootlegging.
