Did Engineering Just Become More Painful? My HGE hunting safari results, post patch...

So, after confirming that the deep core mining multi-chunk bug got stealth fixed, I went looking for HGEs prior to doing some engineering. Made a circuit of the systems that have been spawning HGE's reliably since 3.3. I hope my experience is indicative of nothing more than RNGesus being in a bad mood... otherwise G5 engineering just became horribly worse than it was before.

Not one HGE in EZ Aquarii ...that's a first for me. That system usually spawns several.

Not one HGE in Bolg...

One HGE in Dagaz ... but 336K ls out... continuing the search. :/

LHS 2494, no HGE's.

VZ Corvi (population 11Bn, in both Expansion and War states: No HGEs. Starting to get a bad feeling...

The Guy system (two factions in War, two in Civil War. Pop 3.3Bn...no HGEs.

LP 798-44 system. Two factions at war, two in civil war. One HGE. 35K ls out. <sigh>

LP 673-42 - lots of signal sources, no HGEs. That one's also been reliably good for always spawning an HGE or two.


So, in all that hunting, I came across only two HGEs, where yesterday it would have been 6-8, or more. ...and the two I found were over 35,000ls and over 330,000ls out from the main star.

This bodes ill.

Continuing the safari ...as desperation mounts...

LP 673-13. Pop 77M. Boom & Civil Liberty. No HGEs.

Wolf 359. States: Investment, Civil Liberty, Pirate Attack (!). One HGE, with only 2:37 on timer. Could not check for farming bug. (but got some MGAs). ...and, really FDev? Whose idea was it to create USS's with 2 minutes, 37 seconds on them (this was after an immediate drop into the Nav Beacon, then low-wake back out to find the USS's in system -- for some systems, faster than wading through the USS's using the FSS)? Is that the answer to the bug? Make the USS's so that players have ti discover them IMMEDIATELY upon entering a system, and fly to them IMMEDIATELY, or they'll time out?

Tried Sol next. No HGEs.

The safari continues. It's like hunting on Earth in 3305 ...when all the game animals are long since extinct...

Cu Cancri. Outbreak. No HGEs.

Procyon. Civil LIberty. Boom. Expension. Pop 18.5Bn. No HGEs.

Luyten's Star. Investment. Civil War. 1 HGE ... 1:07 on the timer -- not enough time to fly there. (Are you flippin' kidding me, Frontier!?)

Wolf 406. Investment. Expansion. Pop 7M. High-tech. No HGEs.

I give up. If you manage to spot one of these unicorns, let the world know!

Hmm. So many systems and not a single one? I would expect this not to be a nerf but a bug. Hopefully a server side one, so it can be fixed soon.

My experience too. Thus not touched ED since. I cant achieve my current goal without HGEs. So, easier for me to do something else whilst i await a fix. Reading instead.

Yeah i had similar problems last night. I have a banker system LP 908-11 that does give me the goods but i would expect to be able to grab HGEs from the systems you have already described

Let's assume for a second that I'm not an idiot, that I've been using both the FSS and Nav Beacons to quickly find ALL USS's in the systems I enter since 3.3 dropped, and that even with a LOT of engineering, I've become adept enough to manage keeping my material stocks nearly maxed across the board. There's nothing about this in yesterday's patch notes.

So what on earth are you talking about (so unnecessarily vaguely)?

I'm going to have to ask you to quote these patch notes, I haven't found a single thing. Could you perhaps point your finger towards where I should look ? :)

I'm well aware of the new methodology for HGE's. I have exhausted all avenues and just given up. I see no reason to waste any more of my limited time chasing ghosts. When it is fixed, I shall of course return. Until then, a book is better use of my time.

If they fixed HGE farming without upping the spawn rate of them, then engineering is just not worth it atm. Too random and some mats impossible to find, lots of balancing needed yet.
