Didn't Appreciate The Big Snake In The Trailer. People Have Phobias

Just to be clear, I absolutely love PC, it's a great game, I get a lot of enjoyment out of it, honestly I think it's the best building/simulation game I have ever played. Today I went into Steam, looking for some expansions to add to it and was watching the Adventure trailer. Look I get it, okay, developers can't worry about every little thing that might offend this one or might bother that one but because I am one of the millions of people who have that particular phobia, you can't imagine what it does to look up at your monitor just in time to see a giant snake open it's freaking jaws right in front of your face.
There's a group of us who play Wow together and three of my best friends have arachnophobia, so there a lots of places where they cringe, shiver or avoid if possible and it took a group of guildies and a month of steeling my nerves to be able to tolerate a certain place in the game where they plopped down some big ol' snakes. Actually Wow has more snakes and spiders than any other game I personally have ever played and it's hard to explain what that does to a person's enjoyment of the game.
But back to this one, when the developers are putting together a trailer, do they ever, EVER, stop to think, okay will that particular image be disturbing to anyone? Is there not one of those talented people who knows someone with this particular phobia? It's a real issue for me and I debated whether to come here and speak up. Listen, all I ask, is that you stop and think about really common phobias before putting an image like that into a trailer where a person can't avoid it. I also hope desperately that if I do buy the expansion, there will be the freedom of simply not installing those items in my parks...can't help being afraid though, that they might be attached to other items and not so avoidable.

I am completely freaked out by clowns. I, no joke, had one stalk me once and even chase me in his car when I turned him down for a date. I am not going to seriously complain if they have clowns in a trailer if they do a circus thing... though I do jokingly complain about it. Of course joking about it is how I kind of deal with it. Anyway, yeah people have phobias about some things and while I don't have any issue with perhaps them trigger warnings if they want to, saying they should not put anything people have phobias of is a little silly. It's not like they are showing massive amounts of gore and violence. ANy violence, like the animatronics, are 'cartoon' rather than realistic.

Phobias don't deserve respect or sensitivity in the same way someone's disability deserves respect. "Out of sight out of mind" isn't an appropriate solution to any of life's problems. We can't just pretend certain animals don't exist because of a few elevated heart rates.

Most of us would be scared if a snake crossed our path. Fortunately snakes are scared of people and avoid us if they can. They are not considered pests in general, and not in plague numbers. They were here before we were. Turn your phobia into admiration and respect for these amazing creatures!

By the way, you can change the colour of the snakes. Try making a bright happy pink or purple snake and it might help you overcome your phobia. The way to overcome phobias is to be in control of the situation where the snake, or virtual snake is found. Start by building a cage and putting the stationary baby snake in there.

This can’t be a serious thread, surely?! I bet you’re one of those that write into television channels as well. If this is a serious thread it’s a sad reflection of how this world is going. Or maybe I’m just too cynical.

Next you’ll be saying that you have a fear of roller coasters and they should be removed as well.

So basically you came here to say:
images

And basically otherwise complain that the trailer for something heavily influenced by Indiana Jones shouldn't have featured snakes so prominently because it might trigger peoples irrational fear of snakes.

Spooky pack is full with spiders and icky bugs, and the Adventure full with snakes. Now you know it.

I know phobias as I have a few but it is my own discretion to avoid those and knowing the general "environment" where I know there's high risk to spot those triggering stuff. (Ok I will tell, it is claustrophobia, ticks and hornet nests) But it is also good to get exposed sometimes. It is part of the treatment. ;) (as in phobias that is irrational, and not actual danger to life, which it would not be called phobia then ;D)

Our society is going downhill a big time. Life is tough, you cannot be this over-sensitive and over-reactive about everything people !

If you have a handicap or phobia, you must fight it. World will not adapt to you.

I personally am afraid of technology. So seeing with what this game was made and what I’m playing this game on was very shocking. I want it to be played on a wooden table and made in a mine shaft.

Please Frontier, every time I launch the game it just frightens me.

If Gandalf can take on a Balrog, you can face your fears by climbing into a coffin full of reptiles and insects... trust me ...if you can last 10 minutes with one leg in the box you wont ever wet the bed again [squeeeeee] if its any help joe rogan will hold your hand

+1
replace all rides with ladders, and only give us a few scenery pieces while were at it... i know how about a black cat, broken mirrors, and satanic voodoo dolls, but... certainly, no snakes! obviously like duh L[haha]L

Blah Blah Blah! I seriously debated on writing this post at all because I knew people would just have no respect and make all kinds of assumptions about me. Let me see if I can set the record straight, although I highly doubt it: The trailer in question has a frikkin giant snake opening its jaws right in your face. Like everyone else I play to escape. It just really ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎ me off to have that pop up on my monitor. I chose to bring it to the developer's attention to think twice about the stuff they put in trailers. Giant ass snakes opening its jaws right in my face...nope. Doesn't mean I don't have to right to complain about it, how many other things do people complain about? I didn't ask them not to put it in the game (although I did grumble yes) but I was not happy to see it in the trailer, no warning it was just ...there.
In the town near to where I reside, there was a giant replica of a spider in front of a theatre, made to look like the thing was crawling on the side of the building. Some poor woman wrote in to complain and the publicity folk took it down. This woman was absolutely terrified to drive down that street and I was astonished at how many people showed her no kindness either. (No it wasn't me, thank goodness for me it's just snakes.) I was expecting it with a jungle theme, but not expecting that one brief moment in the trailer.
You know what, bleep this I am just going to ask a mod to delete this whole thread.

See here's the thing... You can easily go about your daily life without ever watching the trailer ever again. Sure it sucks that you got scared, but lets be honest the Devs don't need you to see the trailer again, you don't need to see the trailer again and I'm pretty sure anyone with a snake phobia can just as easily avoid it once aware of the jumpscare.(Especially if they've read this thread or seen what I assume is your post in the steam discussion board.)

That said it seems as though people think you're either trolling, or trying to get the snakes removed just like the lady did with that spider in your story.

Seriously? This thread made it this far? Everyone has a phobia for something and if society has to adapt to everyone's then we would all be in bubbles not seeing or doing anything. As has been mentioned above, You have a phobia, you have to work to overcome it. Society should not have to adapt to you or, in this case, there would not be a trailer. Instead of complaining, work on yourself to get rid of the phobia. You got no sympathy from me in this case. The fact that the lady you mentioned got her wish through is just sad.

See? now that is a respectful response and I thank you for it. I did in fact post in the steam forums and someone was really nice about it and told me, nope you don't have to worry about it being in the game if you don't want it there.
I have reported this thread, but on one of my own posts. I didn't start the whole thing very well because unfortunately, I had been startled and upset because, as I say, I play to escape so being frightened, and not in a good way, yes there are good ways, has a really bad effect on me.
Phobias are irrational fears, of course they are. I have to work really hard to deal with it and I get why people might think it's stupid to complain but I wanted to point something out which is why I came to the suggestion forum. It isn't fun when your phobia comes right at you out of your own monitor(ahem, not actually out of it) but I bet the person with the clown phobia might understand this: imagine if you will, the trailer has a pretty big clown, just comes right at you on the monitor. Right?
Maybe its not the best idea to get on a forum and ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎ about it but I had a point and I believe I had the right to make that point. People have the right to disagree, that's cool but sometimes it seems they just pick a couple words out of a post and then just go at the OP like they had no right to speak up at all. There was no need to treat me like crap, call me a troll or make fun. I was making a suggestion to the developers, telling them why its not enjoyable to some people to have a reptile coming right at their face. Bet its a big thrill on an adventure ride though, just glad I'm not on it but I would know better, considering the theme. I just didn't get a chance to avoid it in the trailer. I hope that makes more sense and if it doesn't well, I had the right to post it, everyone else has the right to respond, just maybe read someone's post and try to understand their point of view before jumping all over them. That's the best I can do to explain and I hope everyone has a good weekend.
