Difficult decisions to keep playing Elite!

Baggage.

50+ friends a squadron, various discords and a steam chat or two.

I began to feel that my ED commitments were even more onerous than my RL ones!

Don't get me wrong all the contacts and comm's I had were entirely positive and fun but I'd lost what I enjoyed the most about Elite and that was escapism. I couldn't go online without a request for comm's or a feeling that I was letting the side down if I didn't log into a Discord and hang out with the Squad.

So I ditched them ALL, changed my CMDR name and shipped out of town.

Now I'm back and enjoying he game again, free agency is the way to go!

I did something similar on PS4. Everyone was friends with everyone else in the early days, and it was great because we all launched on the same day, so we could watch everyone spread out across the Bubble. After awhile it became a bit too social, and I didn't like tons of people knowing when and where (and on PSN, what) I was playing. So wiped all but a few from my PSN friends list. I figure if I see someone I know in Open, it'll be more meaningful if it's a random encounter. Not that many of us from that group play anymore...

Smart move. I was in a similar situation about 10 years ago, and did exactly the same thing, and promised myself, never again. Been a loner ever since in all the games I play, my best mate is an exception, and even for him I set my steam visibility to 'offline' quite often. I like it this way, never gonna do it any other way again :)

Just got done hearing about this study about the Seattle area and beyond. Apparently we are all antisocial people that actively go out of our way to avoid meeting new people and taking part in social interactions, at least where we can avoid it. I'm fairly certain this study is spot on. I mention this because it sounds an awful lot like many Elite Players here. In my observations people are downright selfish with their time, even when it comes to doing fun activities like gaming, they still prefer to be loners over social interaction, which is kind of sad really. Kids are different though, we are raising a whole different breed of gamer now days with stuff like Fortnight, Smite, Roblox and so on. Most of these kids prefer to play socially and are the exact opposite of loners.

IDK, I can see being in a group doing certain things like exploration, crater buggy races and getting a few together to take out the gankers hanging around the engineers for a few examples.
Perhaps you were in the wrong type of squad, more loose knit type that only gets together like quarterly wouln't be bad- just got an invite to one just like that.

I'm constantly running massacre missions between Eravate/LHS 3447 in open. I can go days without any excitement and then its on like donkey kong as the gankers decent like locusts. You're welcome to join me anytime.

I'm currently at Stuemeae FG-Y d7561 (Explorer's Anchorage) doing my Elite finish up for exploration, but I'll breakout the FGS when I get back to the bubble- sounds fun.

Stretches of boredom punctuated with brief interludes of mayhem and murder. Good times!

I know that feel.

Bailed on Discord, and other social sites. Going on about two months now, or close to it. Between my own server, and maybe 5-6 others (10 at one time), I just spent too much time there.

I still like everyone, still say hi in passing, and still shoot at them.

But things are quieter now, and honestly, I kinda like it. I plan on going back to my own server eventually, but for now, I’m just gonna drift around space like the bum I am.

Good grief. I cant think of anything worse.

And considering that social media in its entirety is just compared with actually going out and meeting and engaging with real people and developing real relationships...
... You can stick multiplayer.
Besides... Have you heard the way these kids talk to each other. Yeah, no, not funny, not entertaining, not conducive to a balanced healthy lifestyle.

Yeah I have and they sound the same as when they all play outside together, a lot of smack talk, but all in good fun. Maybe it's different because they know each other, they don't play with random strangers. None of them are on social media yet, and they won't be on there any time soon.

The suicide rate in teens jumps up about 200% between ages 13-15 when they have access to social media, read that one more time and let it sink in, it's a striking figure. So my kids won't have access to that until they are much older .

Sounds like my life in EvE. Being a Fleet Commander in an org of 200+ in an Alliance of 1000+. I simply could not log in without five people 'asking' are you taking a fleet out?

I started to play my hi-sec alt in a small casual Incursion running org a lot more.
