Dinosaur Simulator?

In the AMA yesterday the said they are going to be looking into our complaints once the game is out and work with the community. I wouldn't ne surprised to see more animation among one of the things.

Just to be clear, this isn't a complaint thread but a what is the game and what would you like it to be? thread as it pertains to dinosaur simulation.

I'm a rare breed in that I'm not too fussed in a completely overblown AI system for the dinos. I have no interest in the whole fight mechanic, but I'd like to see some decent pack interactions and hunting behaviour.

Thing is, it's impossible to get "real" with this. AI is programmed and has both boundaries and logic, real life doesn't, so it'll never be 100% accurate even though your brain wants it to be and will spot when it's not. The other problem is that a humans interpretation of what is "real" behaviour is both subjective and interpretive. Look at moral dilemma games for instance - would you save 5 old people from dying if it meant 1 child would die? A computer would save the 5, because 5 > 1. Humans would be more likely to choose the child because the 5 old people don't have a lot of life left, and people tend to sympathise more with children.

In short, all I really want out of this game is to be able to build my own park, put dinosaurs that I want in it, have them look awesome and act alive and then I want to go and visit my park, ride the rides, look out of the viewing platforms and marvel at the greatness when life finds a way

A computer doesn't really save anything. It does what it's programed to do, and if you wanted to program it to calculate out the remaining life expectancy of a child and a group of adults to see a return, the determination of what happens is up to you as the programmer.

Of course you can't always foresee everything, and that isn't really the point nor necessary. Just having fundamental capabilities and variety is enough to do a lot with. There's a big difference between being real and being somewhat plausibly realistic and trying to imitate reality as best as is viably possible. I don't think anyone is asking for self-aware AI in a video game.

In the end it comes down to priorities and what Frontier want the game to be and what opportunities they have to make it.

I see this as primary being a management game so I'm not expecting the most on the simulation side of things, though I am hoping for the best. Of course what is best is subjective. For me it would likely be having the possibility of a viable hands-off ecosystem equilibrium with dinosaurs interacting with their environments and each other as realistically and naturally as is viably possible.
