Dinosaurs are dying quite quickly.

I am finding my dinosaurs are not having very long lifespans.

So far, I only have 4 species. Edmontosaurus (x2), Triceratops (x1), Huayangosaurus (x2) and Archaeornithomimus (x4).

Enclosure wise I have separate enclosures for Edmontosaurus and Huayangosaurus and the Triceratops is in with the Archaeornithomimus.

All have ample ground feeders and water and shelter via trees, but they only seem to live for a couple of hours of game time... is this normal until I start messing with the genomes or something ? Clicking on the dinosaurs shows them to be 100% health and 100% comfort but then they just drop dead.

How much of the genome do you have? I thought they lasted better as you got towards 100%, though I do have regular deaths even when they're happy.

I think too that they could last a bit longer by default. I have 30+ dinos on the first island and my breeding stations start to struggle keeping up to replace the dead ones

Yeah old age comes excessively quick in this game, as a result I've been focusing all of my gene splicing on increasing animal lifespan.

^^ even with 100% genome, they really don't last very long at all. I bred a few Dinosaurs yesterday that had (around) 60% genome, and they died all within three-four hours. Presumably if 60% gives a three hour (real-time) lifespan, then 100% is going to give us what, five hours? Maybe six? Dinosaurs shouldn't be dying that quickly by game standard. We, the players, should see the same Dinosaurs alive and well for a good number of [real-time] days, or even weeks before they start dropping dead.

One thing I would like is a screen that shows what I created when, and when (and how) they died. Quite often I'm tidying up dead ones but don't remember to replace them (things can be hectic!) - would be good if the game could tell me what I'm missing.

I think the relatively short lifespan is intended, as it keeps the possibility of the remaining dinos becoming unhappy as their group dies off.

I'm sure sometime soon we'll start to see the charts for how long dino's last and things will become clearer (and it seems like one of the things FD can easily tweak if they need to).

You can genetically modify them to increase the lifespans quite a bit (the pure'er genome you have the more you can modify them, with the right researches allmost any modification can increase the lifespan), but even so the game seems to be set on a fast timescale so they still die rather quickly.

It's a bit naff though. I know it's inconsequential, but naming Dinosaurs that're going to be dead during a session. If I started a game on Monday and named a Dinosaur Danny, by Friday I'd have Danny Jr Jr Jr Jr (at least).
