Disappointed

Im a backer of E:D from KS - and I understand the game didn't make the kind of money SC did - but I am a little disappointed with the lack of updates and invovlment of dev with the community.

Not sure if its a Frontier thing - but if a neophyte like Josh Parnell who is making Limit Theory can be so deeply be in synch with the community with virtually daily updates working solo on 1/10th of the budget of this game and monthly hands on realy time game updates- I'd expected E:D to give us more than a rare "talk" video by Braben with no actuals once in a while!

Its still early in development so I think we all know there wont be many code throughputs as such - but the involvement others are building include concept art and early prototyping/development models in a forum that accentuates community interest bringing me to the next point - this forum is just sad. Its a throwback to the old WYSIWYG forums of yesteryears - i dont even feel like opening the threads since there seems to be very little will in the community to contribute to perceived lack of involvement of the developers/promoters into the community process.

You make a fair point, there is a seeming lack of dev involvement in the threads, but it does happen.

If you get into them you will see the suggestions and debates are taken note off when dev newsletters are out... so far weekly.

It could be more BUT I say let them work.. and give us there time when they have stuff to say...

Dont agree with you.

Are you for real? we have had newsletters/video-diary's, and feedback from the Devs in the forums/threads. They need to make the game, and they spend what spare time they can updating this GREAT Forum Community(am not in the DDF forum, but there's plenty of discussions there, actually same in most of the other forums to.

If you cant be bothered to open the threads, you wont see the hundreds of questions, inputs etc that us KS guys have asked, or joined in on how we would like to see ED develop.

Try opening some threads you might be presently surprised. Am happy with what weve got so far, and am sure more will come as ED develops. :)

ps, ive done many forums but not seen WYSIWYG? whats it mean? :S

While community involvement is all very nice, I'd much rather that FD are beavering away at the game than pointlessly shooting the breeze.

WYSIWYG stands for 'What You See Is What You Get'

Titan1978, sure things were slow at first and there isn't an overwhelming amount of dev involvement in the forums but i'd much rather they got on with it than spend all day chatting to us, Ashley Barley, Michael Brooks & all the forum staff have done a good job so far of involving the community, had you joined when the KS finished you might of been aware of it a bit more.

it's not just the staff either, the community is getting involved, you have the Lave radio podcasts, the Elite Dangerous Wiki, regular updates from the official authors on their blogs/kickstarter pages and soon regular articles from the site i run, elitestories.co.uk.

you have Mobius making custom banners & wallpapers, official writers updates alongside the newsletters from FD, an average of around 10 - 12 updates from the authors every week and lots of fun friendly discussion, all of it within the forums if you only look for it.

also it depends on where your pledge gives you access too, the public's don't see staff as often as the Private backers forum and i cant comment on the DDF as i'm not a member but to use one of Mobius images to represent it, the Private writers forum looks like this:

Michael Brooks is in the green tent on the right ;)

I find it rather balanced updates, newsletters and video dev.

At first I did not like the forum but ultimately it is lively and varied.

The problem is that there are many people watching but not participating subjects.

If you have access to a private forum, you will also have access to discussions DDF fenced. It is very intessant and you can leave an opinion.

Finally, I found the design of the forum very enjoyable to watch.

It is true, and I had already raised the question, a text chat for donors is also not bad but not essential.

Re: This forum is just sad. Funny actually I was just thinking exactly the opposite and considered posting a thread on those thoughts, but figured nah, it's so obvious and it'll sound like I'm sucking up....

But I've been in this community for about... ten days. In that time I've been involved in a few discussions, actually kept out of the stuff on the backers forum since although I browse I'm not a big rules man. I've made some friends, made Mobius our sig-man cry, been invited to join the fan-fic writer's forum and written something for it as well as been invited to contribute to Lave Radio.

I've put a bit of effort in, but I think that's why I've got something back.

It might be true that the Devs don't check the General Forums that often, but to be fair they are extremely involved with the Design Decision Formus and have seriously a lot to manage with all those posts there.

Since most of the People who have access to the DDF somewhat regularly hang out in the basic Forums too, I think there actually is some exchange of ideas, it just isn't visible to you.

I still understand your wish for more regular presence though, but view it this way : The more they hang out here, the less they actually work at the game ^^

I think it is still far too early to make a statement like that. Its only two months after kickstarter so things have only just got going. Give it a couple more months and we will start to see more progress.

I think some people just don't realize what is involved. FD have an immense task ahead of them. Let them got on with it.

Its never too early to let your feelings be known, and it gives ED a good chance to throw the odd bone to the general forums..

I think there is a wealth of entertainment and information here and lots of places to let your ideas be known EVEN if you cant get access to some of the other forums..

The Fan created forum is AMAZING... and Im forever drinking at the Thargoid and Fer-der-Lance, and having my meals at Mcthargoids..

I enjoy the people here as much as the information and dev reveals...

Come in and join us....

i totally agree.

and more: don't create any kind of pressure to the staff, please.
Let them work in peace.

Btw i liked the recent progress diary videos.. i hope they will do more of those until something of the game can be showed.

I'm quite happy with the current level of feedback - my fav was actually the fiction update with Michael.... very funny too!

I'm not ecstatic though - I'd always like more! But if this is it... well, it's fine by me.

The level of interaction at the start of KS wasn't good - but by the end it was rocketing along quite nicely.

I imagine something similar will happen here!

There is plenty of Dev presence in Private Backers and DDF forums - Discussions in DDF and votes/polls in PB are helping shape the ED design and mechanics. I have seen plenty of direct conversations between members and Devs about the game mechanics.

Just because SC is spending a fortune on media hype and cut scenes as they did earlier games from CR (no disrespect intended) it doesn't mean it will be a better game to play in the long run. SC has over 8mil dollars to pay people to produce the glitz. I for one would rather see FDs time and money spent on game development.

There will be more to drool over in time - it has only been 3 months after all.

If I could I would pay to have access to the Design Decision forums. Because I been working on some cool ideas. So the best I can do is Private Backers Forum. But all I can do is hope they look at some of my ideas and maybe they could use some of them.

So if you are disappointed Titan1978. Maybe toss a few ideas to the forums. Even if it point out a flaw of a current idea.

A lot of the time, us moderators here on the boards are forwarding over links to topics and other discussions to the development team to have a read. Don't be too let down about it! :)
