In that case, there's nothing to announce at the moment. Elite doesn't have the resources for both the narrative content and the stuff you mentioned at the same time.

It really isn't that black and white at all...
Indeed, there are the ex-players, never players and never-will-players on the forum to include in the narrative!

If what is coming is tied to lore and can't be revealed on release (to generate enthusiam to find it) that might put them off- perhaps have a spoiler section that has broad strokes whats added (but no story- so its "added Thargoid Motherships / added Guardian Roboships" etc).

But then I suppose its other players excitedly splurging out spoilers and we are back to Doom™.
The last bit. Saying "Oh just put it in a spoiler section for the people who want to see it and we'll behave ourselves" is nice sentiment and completely inaccurate to how our engagement-driven internet functions. The second a spoiler is mentioned, it's as good as released. There will be 30 YouTube videos about it in an hour, and then 30 more videos an hour later shouting it down as "not content" and demanding insert-gameplay-wishlist-here.

And then all of us who wanted to get excited about the surprise have had our fun ruined.

Most of what you posted is summarized in the same post

I am further emphasizing your own conclusion that the suggestion of "just having a spoiler section" doesn't work.
It would not work for you. For some who want to know if U13 is worth plugging away at (and what its adding- i.e. U13s value, rather than simply waiting for what could be a long time) then having a spoiler section would help because they can see what content is coming- hence the Kinder Egg.

There is a difference in knowing what is added and the upcoming plot itself- hopefully when Proteus fires what is new is instantly added, rather than x weeks of CGs building up to more blind waiting and more people becoming frustrated rather then excited (which is happening right now).

Do people want to know how an in game story rolls out ahead of it rolling out? This I'd be really curious to collect thoughts on, to be honest.
Absolutely not. To be honest FD have been repeatedly very clear about this. You can't tell us what's coming in the update(s) because it's narrative based and would spoil the story. I totally get and appreciate that and personally don't want any spoilers or teasers (beyond what's happening in Galnet news) ... thanks Sally!

I was excited for Carrier interiors when they were inbound, I diverted my own 'personal narrative' & waited in a Carrier Admin system for update 11 so I could fit a Vista Genomics module to my carrier before returning to wandering around the galaxy with it. I'm very glad carrier interiors were not a part of the storyline.

Clearly it's the Stability and Optimization that's exciting...😜

You joke, but historically seeing these parts of the patch notes has been something I anticipate the most.

To sally's question earlier....

I do think updates to stability and optimization, or changes to core game features such as Engineering, or maybe something like - I don't know - removing the XP loss for having a crew or being in a wing, could be safely mentioned ahead of time without spoiling any narratives for anybody.

Knowing whether to wait for the next patch, or wait for some other future point of time, would be nicer than being in the dark.

Sally does an excellent job with managing the comms during a patch release, she's not only helpfully informative but often very entertaining in a way that makes me root for her (and by proxy, FDev) when issues inevitably come up.

It would be good to see more of that kind of approach after (historically) comms being in the doldrums for so long. I want there to be things I can actually look forward to rather than just hoping. I think those decisions go above Sally's paygrade sadly.

I've seen CMs in other games desperate to release information on (mostly mechanical and bugfix) stuff, but they just can't, the higher ups won't allow it. and the higher ups can be a stubborn bunch. They are stuck between the players, who they for the most part agree with and side with, and doing what they are being paid to do. That's why you should never, ever, vent your frustrations on CMs. Its not their fault. None of it lol

We've only got a week to go (hopefully) before Update 13 so not much longer to wait.

I think we need to manage our expectations so we're not disappointed. Update 13 is not going to be a big update with lots of new features or content. It won't have the Panther Clipper or any other new ship, it won't have ship interiors, or the ability to walk around Earth-Likes.

The best way to approach Update 13 (and the way I'm approaching it) is to think of Update 13 as a Bugfix and Optimisation update and therefore any new content or features is a bonus. Of course it could also bring more bugs (of the Thargoid kind) which could be exciting. :)

I think you are correct.
