Greetings Commanders,

Monday jumps in once again! Here we go for another week ahead in the Elite Dangerous Galaxy.

Discovery Scanner is now hot off the press and available for your viewing pleasure at the following link: https://www.elitedangerous.com/news/discovery-scanner-06022023

As an additional acknowledgement this morning which sits within Discovery Scanner 'Game News' - we'd also like to add the following to the list of prominent reported issues, following increased reports over the weekend:
The team have been made aware of the feedback and we'll be in touch with any further information/clarity around it as we have it.

Have a great week ahead, Commanders!

Not sure if there are plan about the other bugs, some that are coming up on two years now.

The Bug Report Site has its own bugs that are not getting fixed. If a report is merged with another, you cant find it under your contributions. You have to find it manually, good luck with that. There needs to be a way to reactivate a closed report when they have expired when they have not been fixed, and to fix where it shows contributed on reports that are merged. I do not know of any location to report a bug with the bug report software.

Thruster power has been halved unless rotational correction is toggled off https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/44533

Antialiasing is non-existent, it seems to not be rendered at all, as if it is in the wrong order in the rendering, like is be found the sharpening filter is applied. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/31122 and https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/47996

Core mining has been effectively removed from the game as the pulse wave scanner only highlights about 10% of the core rocks since update 6. They are still there, but you would not know that it has fissures unless you inspect it manually, they do not glow orange anymore. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/50436

The dots that show a planets position in supercruse have not moved properly since Odyssey launched. The stars are fine, but planets jump around as they go though the different levels of detail https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/48765

Shadows in VR have a lot of issues. Flickering, blobbyness, the lack of shadows themselves. The flickering still happens, even though bug reports were marked as it being fixed. Shadows in Horizons were sharp, you could see the shape of the cover on the control stick button when it flipped up. In Odyssey, is it the characters torso, no it is their head, no, torso, no head.. because it is so imprecise and blobby as you move around, both in ship or on foot. It looks like an old Skyrim bug at launch that calculations were off a decimal causing a floating point error. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55786

It is also annoying when your entire ship or SRV stops casting a shadow, even on its own interior. I am not sure if I should rename them Peter Pan because of this. First it will be a portion of the body kit, and then the entire ship, so because it does not self-shadow, the entire inside of the ship is lit up, and then it comes back. On a glide, it is like a strobe light inside the ship. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/42913

Also in VR, the scattering system causes all biologicals and the scatter system that renders rocks to make every thing on the surface vanish and reappear as if it has a Klingon cloaking device that is on the fritz. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/51167 and https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/51167

Population filter does not save when you leave the galaxy map on Odyssey. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/46734

The Fleet Carrier Galaxy map option was never put into Odyssey, was in Horizon. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55008

Many weapon types functioning in trailing sights mode are broken. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/52113

VR users that use the "look at screen to open" for the chat window, cant see chat when they look at it. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55228

Odyssey on foot plasma bullet magnetism, cause more plasma bullets to miss then what would be allowed to hit. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/49831/

Several weapons have had the bloom effect from their "bullets" removed. The SRV looks like it is firing nothing now. The abrasion blaster alternates update to update, it is a roll of the dice if the bloom works for it. Am not sure if whomever that deals with versioning is reverting on some branches? https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55671

Several years ago with the large black square shadows on planets, that bug was found because the developer version of the game dealt with NaN (not a number) errors differently then the Player Client did. Is it possible that several of the issues are because everything is being tested on a Dev version and that is why we are getting responses that is not happening on developer machines? Am not sure how much of the old knowledge was transferred to the newer developers, so some of this might have been lost over the years, and we are now repeating history. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/black-squares-on-planet-surface.381070/page-6#post-6444470

Edit additional from later in the thread:

Salvage missions, items do not appear on first visit, workaround is to fly away and they are present on second loading of the site. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/55906 and https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/57720

The broken PWS has also effectively removed subsurface mining.
This is particularly problematic when you need to mine tritium far from populated areas.

Do you have an exact link, I can add that to the post. I have been trying to find several of the URLs to those, but search has to be exact and I am sure I missed several when trying to come up with different terms and orders. Example, I only found one of the above because I misspelled planets myself and came across it by accident.

No, but I think most of the issues are covered in the comments on 50436 that you linked.
I thought there were other issues reported for this but I also can't find them, so maybe they were deleted.

The report was submitted in June, but I had issues with the PWS in February or March of 2022.
I don't recall seeing any comments at all from Frontier about mining issues.

It's understandable for there to be bugs, and also understandable that the fixes might not be scheduled for certain milestones, but the lack of feedback from Frontier on long standing issues is a real problem.

That is my bug for the bug report site too, when two things are merged, your account looses the connection to anything you added, so it does not show up as being a contributor, and you cannot find it unless you go though it completly manually one by one looking for your text.

I would to trow some coins into your valid request,

The salvage missions which are bugged, stuff which is requested didn’t appear in a container or is bugged under the wreckage, a workaround here is to relog or fly away and come back. Totally annoying, it’s constantly repeatable

I will add it, but do you have a link to where it was reported too, so they can forward it on to the devs that need it?

@sallymorganmoore sorry for the ping, but as I remembered you told us that you will have a chat about the console transfer process? Can you give us some clearification when it would be come back, and in which way it would change?

Because as I remember we had a full transfer and before that there where a soft transfer which only copy the bankbalance.

It would be nice to know in which way we can transfer. And I really really hope that we can transfer our fully modded ships.

Thanks in advance.

Edit additional from later in the thread:

This is, for me, the real tipping point of Elite's future. Not adding more content, but making the existing one WORK.

There is a VERY long-standing issue with Megaship Datalink missions. I suggest we treat https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/50643 as the primary report because it has been Acknowledged and needs votes; and also some other issues have been marked by FDev as duplicates of this one so they must be aware of the problem already.

The problem is that you cannot complete an "Infiltrate the Megaship Datalink" mission. There are at least three symptoms reported.
1. You arrive at the ship and scan the Datalink with apparent success. However this does not mark the mission complete. A relog does not fix the issue and the issue is apparent in both Open and Solo.
2. You arrive at the ship and cannot scan the Datalink; your ship reports that the Datalink target has been "already scanned." This blocks mission completion.
3. There is also a UX issue - you can accept multiple missions for the same ship. However the internal logic does not cater for this case.

The outcome is that some people report the FIRST mission is successful and they are blocked on all the others they accepted; and some people report that this condition of multiple missions triggers problem 2 above so you can't complete any of the missions.

Note https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/54363 talks about issue 3 above, specifically, and does not mention cases 1 or 2 so it's not quite a duplicate, unless someone at FDev can prove they share a root cause.

Note there are lots of reports of being unable to find the megaship in the first place or being "unable to catch it" - most of those look like pilot error to me anyway and it's irrelevant until the issue above is fixed, so I think those can wait.

being "unable to catch it"
That's almost certainly the other bug where a megaship gets placed the wrong distance from a ring system, and the game places the player into the rotating ring reference frame and the megaship into a stationary one (or vice versa) so the megaship appears to run away at the rotational speed of the ring.

Frontier have fixed a lot of individual instances of this with megaships, installations, stations, etc. over the years by moving them to positions where it doesn't happen, but don't seem to have a general "stop it happening to all of them at once" option.

Still no news, Sasa! As soon as I have it, as promised, you can have it o7

I appreciate your efforts here @Malic but it'd be great if maybe this thread wasn't turned into a place to link and compile issues.
I appreciate too that it's not entirely obviously where this sort of information can be pushed for our attention, but I do still have that huge thread you made from before in here which you highlighted again not too long ago.
Off the back of this to keep things tidy, I'm going to lock the door on this again so my head keeps level with all of the requests o7
