I've posted this not to show anyone in particular in any light but as a meta-discussion covering these topics:

  • What was discussed
  • What were the key points by all involved
  • How were they addressed by the opposing speakers
  • How was it resolved in the end
This isn't an attack on anyone, just a publically available record of the discussion. I think having publically available records is a good thing.

The content of this discussion was as to whether HIP 105391 was not the best

The question I would like to put out there is:

  • what could both sides have done better?
  • how do we engender better discussion about aisling and powerplay?

Facinating.

I just wish someone would explain what this actually is.

I can grasp the essential notion, each faction vies for control of different areas rather like a game of galactic chess.

What is CC?

What is fortification?

What is media?

Why is it that if I distribute these things I am told I can only do so in multiples of 15, though that will expire in X time, which never actually seems to change? Then when I do distribute I end up loosing almost all my funds?

Before I have come come back and ask for more can someone just describe how this all works and define what all the terms are?

What is CC?
CC is a resource. it stands for Command Capital. Powers use it to pay for upkeep and overhead cost of systems as well as to buy control systems. We gain CC from all systems within the sphere of influence of control systems.

What is fortification?
Fortification is where you deliver a special commodity that can only be found in the capital, Cubeo to a control system. Transferring enough to reach a threshold for that control system will negate the upkeep cost.

What is media?
This is the name of the special commodity used in fortification

how much special commodity each player has access at any one time is limited by their current rank. You can purchase more instead of waiting for the timer to run out.
What you as a player gain is merits. When you gain enough merits, you rank up with that power when the cycle ends. the amount of merits you have will decay by half during each cycle.

I am still not sure why I loose so much of my finds when distributing the materials.

I have been destroyed on arriving at Cubeo 4 times in the last 2 days. Each time with a full cargo.

If the stupid ****** who claims to run the place can't be bothered to defend it, then I think I'll just take my loytality elsewhere.

This woman has cost too much and is not worth any of it.

I'm in. I won't leave Aisling Duval just yet, but with all the destruction and loosing on these silly propaganda drops, I'm currently down to about 2.5 mill Cr. My ship is worth more than my wealth and if I loose any more I won't have enough for a cargo.

I can usually shake off any attacks from NPC, their weapons rarely make much more than few dents. But these player ambushes seem to smash my ship in seconds.

Anyway, I need to build up my capital if I'me to be a capitalist. I hope I am no disadvantaged by being aligned with Aisling Duval, if so I may need to be non-aligned for a while.

I would like to stay with Aisling Duval if for no other reason than her ideas of telling everyone the garden is rosy so it will be strike a chord with real life and our own glorious leadership.

At the moment I've found a fairly safe round trip hauling 92 tons, making almost 300,000 CR a trip with fuel costs at 700CR.

I'll build up my capital a bit then see what other ideas are around.

I don't have any audio equipment on my PC at the moment. It's a plan and when I do I'll be in more of a position to join with some of the group quests.

Thanks for letting me let off steam and I will be doing so again! I don't really understand what is happening in Cubeo at the moment. Still, I seem to be going unnoticed where I am now.

Cubeo is, unfortunately, a favourite hunting ground for a group of commanders who seem to think that "PvP" means intercepting and blowing up harmless players flying trading ships.

The Prismatic Imperium (the player faction based in Cubeo) and the 13th Legion do their best to respond to reports of these hostile players, but instancing issues can result in problems finding them.

If you are experiencing problems getting into the system, I suggest joining the Aisling Duval Slack which is our primary and preferred method for communication and coordination between the various AD commanders and groups. It may be possible to sort you out with an escort or a wing if you ask for one.

In addition, various player groups run their own internal systems, such as Aisling's Angels Facebook group, the Prismatic Imperium's news site, or the Black Hand's discord as mentioned above by Olivia. Some of these may be available to non-members.

OK done all that. But I must emphasise that while I will join you as soon as I can, I don't have the audio equipment at the present time to connect.

Slack is browser and text based, not audio, so that should not be a problem. Think of it as providing the chat channels the game doesn't have.

Casual AD player myself, currently trying to test the theory that the rank 5 bonus actually applies to reputation as well as influence. But it is nice to hear what is going on at the upper levels, thanks!

This is incorrect. It's not the black hand's discord. It's Aisling Duval's discord and everyone is free to join. Here's a forum post for it to clear up your confusion:

That wasn't an upper level discussion but a general public discussion that about cc values. I'd be happy to answer questions.

It's a discord run by the Black Hand with access open to other AD members. A fine distinction, I'll grant you, yet an important one in some ways.

As the post you quoted points out, there is in fact a general AD discord which is linked to from the Slack. I wasn't going to mention it or post a link to it as I've never actually seen people bother using it.

It's not run by the black hand, we have admins from various aisling player groups. AA, PI and PL.
You don't call the slack, a PL slack because gswine is from the pl do you?

Our discord is a general AD discord as well, the only difference is ours is public, more active.

Edit: don't get me wrong, members of the black hand did create it, but it's for everyone and power is give to player group leaders. At what point do you decide that the PL's slack is now the AD slack. What's the tipping point? :p

If I were to rejoin powerplay (having been an AD pledge for ~30 weeks), but wanted get involved with a group this time, could you give me a rundown of the big groups in AD? I've heard of the AA (PvP focused), and the PI (lore-focused), but who are the PL and the Black Hand? And what's up with the Black Hand having a bad rap? I'm reading some negative vibes between the Black Hand and the rest of AD. Correct me if I'm wrong on any of this. Also, who organises our preps/forts? Does AD have BGS-focus groups?
